Long practice today, got there at 3:20 and they were already working in individual groups. Practice lasted till almost 6 PM.

Blough was throwing in the 1 on 1's, and 5 on 5's, but didn't throw when it was 11 on 11. Seemed to have good velocity and accuracy.

Sipe and Plummer took the most throws all afternoon, with an occasional throw by the walk-ons, Banks and O'Connell. Some nice throws by all, but a couple of interceptions (hard to tell the DB's, cause they roll their jerseys up).

Markell and DJ did most of the running with the first team, and Horvath (RS-FR) ran with the 2nd squad (he's big).

Amad and Jackson look fast at field level! Amad had a couple of drops.

Along the sidelines, Markus seems bigger than 235!

Pro day is at the indoor facility tomorrow, so Austin Appleby, J'wan Bentley and a couple that I didn't recognize were there.

Great talk with Austin! He's such a quality guy.

He's really impressed with coach. AA said he considered Western Kentucky because of Brohm (when he transferred) but it was hard to turn down Florida. He said it was obvious that he made the right decision going to Florida. I told him it was interesting during a couple weekends a couple years ago, that on several Saturdays, there were 3 'Purdue' QB's starting! He said that it was obvious that those guys were not the problem (time to jump in here all you DH haters - personally, I like DH, but he apparently is not HC material).

AA was disappointed that he was picked up by the Cowboys and then cut, but maybe he will land somewhere this year.

JB doesn't give me the time of the day, but did say pro day tomorrow at Purdue was open to the public.

Anthony Mahoungou was there and chatted with him a couple of minutes. I really like him and congratulated him on working hard through the years. It finally paid off. He's graduated and will be at pro day also. He represents Purdue very well ! !

Couple of unofficials were there that I talked to (I'm sure there were others):

- 6'4" 235 lb junior quarterback from "the region" with his dad - don't know if we're recruiting him, but Brian Brohm came over and chatted for a couple of minutes (the more I see of the Brohms, the more I like)

- freshman RB from Class A champion was there with 2 of his coaches (nice people also) - don't know if we're recruiting him

Was impressed with the end of practice talk by the coach:

- go to class this Friday
- work hard
- go to all your classes Friday BEFORE you leave town
- good story about an outstanding player who always stayed after practice to work on stuff
- don't leave Purdue until you've attended all your classes on Friday
- results depend on having a good spring camp, a productive summer and a good fall camp

(you're welcome to send me money for this report!)

Thanks for sharing. I wonder who’s running with the 1’s in the secondary? I’m assume Blackmon at corner and Adam T at S, but who are the other 2 guys? Is Jallow going to be a LB? Will shuman be a factor?

Mosley is the other safety.

Purdue Pro Day

All Purdue guys, but a couple had ties to other universities, Austin to Florida and another guy who spent a couple years here, but then transferred (Stacey told me who it was, but I didn't recognize, nor remember the name).

AA was here to try out and to deliver to the receivers. Did a nice job. As mentioned above, he's such a quality young man.

Never met him before, but talked to Navon Mosley for a little bit. Nice kid, well spoken, sharp. Said that he liked DH, but there was just a different atmosphere with Brohm. Couldn't exactly explain it. Said he really liked Poindexter. Not only did he have a great college career and knew his stuff, he was someone that related to the players in many ways.

Mahoungou's only miss was a 50 yard corner route that was a bit overthrown, so probably wasn't a true drop. He looks slow compared to other receivers, due to his long stride, but i think he moves very well. I asked him (cause I never ready anything about it) if he was hurt on the last pass play of the bowl and he said he tweaked his shoulder, but that he was fine. Looked fine today! (even had a haircut to help with his 40 time - he quipped).

Gelen was his usual self, all smiles, hard work and orange shoes. According to Navon, for his size, this guy is strong and can move people. Hope he gets a chance.

Danny E, like Gelen, was all smiles (does this guy ever frown or look mean?). Sitting with his girlfriend (a BS and MS grad of Purdue), I hope he gets a shot somewhere, too.

All players admitted that to go out this year with a winning record and a bowl victory, made all the work, sweat, lifting, summer workouts and camp worth it.

David Blough looked himself on the sidelines and chatted very briefly.

Do we have any nasty kids on the roster?

OK, this old guy's report is over.

Great stuff, thanks again for posting. By all accounts, DH is a good guy; I'm always going to wonder why his success didn't transfer to here. Was it the change in leagues and the talent levels? More to deal with in a Power 5 conference and he just couldn't get it organized? Different recruiting base?

I think a lot of it, his staff didn't follow him and were probably a big part of his success at Kent State.

That doesnt explain the poor recruiting, the lack of identity and tone deafness to the fanbase.
