Went down with my wife and three kids from Chicago. We had a absolute blast. The campus looks fantastic. Much improved since I was there n the mid 90's.
Met all the QBs, they all seemed like great young men. You forgot how young these guys are.
Certainly understand its only one day worth of work but here are my thoughts on the QBs.
Regardless of competition or play calling the ball absolutely comes out of Blough's hands much faster and with better accuracy then Appleby. His mobility and creativity was refreshing to see.
Considering its lesser competition I would have expected a much improved play from Appleby. Not the case. Pretty much on par with what we saw last year. Still stairing down receivers. 3rd year in the system things should be improving?
Danny will be a decent back up. Hope he proves me wrong.
One thing that I did not see discussed was the play calling for Blough. The plays were more upfield and higher percentage throws. This also may be Bloughs ability to read the field better and check off receivers
Appleby was on Shoop's team. As we saw last year they kept trying to complete those low percentage 5 yards outs across the field. Some were under thrown. Some were sailing and would have certainly been picked off by better competition. This is the hardest throw in football. Why keep forcing it without much success? And a high risk of a int with weaker arms.
Not sure if this is more on Shoop or Appleby or a combination. If we are gonna get another year of Appleby/ Shoop five yard out offense it will be maddening.
Bilal Marshall seems like he can be a nice addition at WR especially if Anthrop comes back healthy.
If we can get improved QB play and push the ball up field more I think we will be a more competitive team. I could care less who starts just want a winner on Saturdays
Bentley is enormous, stud!!!
Boiler Up Hammer Down!!!!
