Welcome Mr. Hayes!

We now have 7 known commitments to this recruiting class. I know people will say it has (4) 2 stars in that 7, but we do have (3) 3 stars too. Also, it seemed like it took forever last year before we got any verbals and at the end we were just taking some just to fill a class up. It is nice to get earlier verbals and to get some of our top targets before they verbal someplace else.

Without mass exits on our current team, how many spots are available for this recruiting class?

I agree it's good to see but I'm always somewhat skeptical about early commits in football. Some want to make sure they are onboard with a big school but are waiting for a better offer from other prowlers. Again, good to see the early interest though.

It has been a nice run. I feel like this is the most commits we have had this early in this era and looks to be some good prospects. I think Hayes is our best pick up so far. Sipe and Branch look solid as well. I'm not surprised they wanted 2 QB in this class since we only have 3 scholarship guys on the roster and we seem to lose one every year. Sipe is the more true QB and Alstott is a legacy guy we are glad to land. 24/7 rates all of them except the OL as 3 stars, if it makes people feel better. I don't worry about stars as much as strong offers. WR Hayes and OL Tusha had offers from Cincy. QB Sipe had an offer from Boise State. QB Alstott had one from South Florida. RB Branch had one from Vandy and ECU. DE Mason and DB West had no other FBS offers.

Obviously it's early and if things go south and people get canned these guys could all leave. I'm not holding out hope but it'd be nice to see a winning season and see it pay off on the recruiting trail.

Other than maybe Boise none of those schools you listed are "strong" offers. Kinda laughable you'd say that then listed schools like south Florida and ecu. That's why we're in the dumps so bad. Not only is haxell a terrible coach, he's a terrible recruiter as well.

I think any player who wants to come to Purdue is fine, what is the guy supposed to do when he gets an offer to a big ten school, glad to see everyone of them commit

star ratings arent the same across platforms. 24/7 is pretty generous with their ratings.

As for Hayes, he had an Illinois offer.

Perhaps strong was the wrong word. Power 5 conference offer and/or a team with recent success. ECU has won at least 8 games 3 out of the last 4 years and 6 years since 2007. USF won 8 games last year. Those programs are much better off than we are and felt an offer to those guys were justified. Seems okay to me. Is it where we want to be? No. Is it as good as it will be right now until things turn (regardless of under who as the coach)? Yes. Just reaching for positives. We have to have something to hope for and talk about. Do I think Hazell is the guy or a good recruiter? Not really. I just wish he'd prove us wrong so we could watch some good football sooner rather than later. I have nothing against him personally.

Half these guys will flip before signing day plus another 25% flip when DH gets the ax.

Partial MAC talent, partial NAIA talent and the most inept coaching staff in the Big Ten isn't going to get it done my friend. If this team wins four games, hell will freeze over immediately.

This football forum is mostly full of negativity regarding the program. Kinda sad people on here can't get behind the team and new recruits as well as current players with some positive support. Every time a new recruit signs it's a contest to who can find the negatives about said recruit or coaching staff. Unbelievable and ridiculous.

So if we don't like the status quo, that's "...unbelievable and ridiculous..." negativity? Should we all be spunky little cheerleaders rooting for the Boilers, mindless of the losing record, abysmal recruiting and no visible upside in the future? More to the point, does anyone seriously believe that Hazell will turn this around next year? Looking at the schedule, we might go winless.

I'm not saying we have to always be "spunky little cheerleaders" but too many forums start out welcoming a newly signed recruit and quickly becomes a bashing site for how many stars he has.

Why would anyone bash any Purdue commit, that wants to play for our school? The guy or girl got the offer they wanted and took it, the coach made the offer.

The stars mean nothing. However a review of the other schools that offered the kid provides a great deal of insight.

And I have never bashed any individual recruit. However our collective recruits in recent recruiting classes do not measure up to those of our Big Ten peers and they do not develop into Big Ten caliber athletes.

Hazell has signed 4 horrid recruiting classes In a row, and when the dust settles in February, hard to believe this one will be any different. He's just an awful recruiter.

I am sure they are mostly good kids, and some of them could probably be decent B1G players under a number of B1G coaching staffs. This isn't one of those staffs.

kinda hard not to be full of doom and gloom when the team has won 6 games in 3 years, 2 wins in the conference, and finished outside the top 70 nationally in recruiting the past 2 seasons.

Is there as much Doom and gloom on the bball side as well? Coach Painter has recruited well and still loses to the likes of Arkansas Little Rock
