lets see how healthy he is before we get too excited
Awesome. We may need to play small this year, and this will help us do that. If biggie leaves, we will need to go 3 guards quite a bit.According to Twitterverse.
Ehh, even if he's not....seems like a leader and a good guy to have around the team. We have potentially 3 more (or 4 more) 1 year slots left so even if he's not a huge help on the court having that leadership will help.lets see how healthy he is before we get too excited
I really like having that experience on the team.ugh too late
Welcome Spike !!!!I really like having that experience on the team.

I like Spike. Glad he is a Boiler.
I'm just cautious on his expectations next year. He hasn't played or worked out in looong time due to surgery. Who knows what type of player he'll be coming off that surgery. He was a role player on a team that had creators (from the video above, his best game, he was getting feeds from Trey Burke and Hardaway Jr ... he didn't have a game like that since his freshman year). We don't have creators on this team that would create those same type of opportunities.
I think he will be a good stabilizing addition to the team and love his attitude and leadership. Anything else on top of that is gravy.
If Carsen and Basil can be additional penetrate & create guys, Purdue will be better offensively than last season.Vince Edwards can create, Smotherman has the potential to create, so does Carsen Edwards. Mathias can make pinpoint passes and create to a degree.
Maybe in that regard specifically we can be better,If Carsen and Basil can be additional penetrate & create guys, Purdue will be better offensively than last season.
this balances out the guard spot a bit or next year. He adds depth to our PG position while losing KS evens out the SG position. Spike also handles the press well. Speaking of UM, they lost Chatman yesterday due to transfer.Maybe in that regard specifically we can be better,
But overall it's still a ton to replace ajh's inside, and out, game that we came to rely so heavily on.
We will have to penetrate if outside shooting doesn't improve.
AJ's interior game was terrific. So was Isaac's. AJ's perimeter game was also impressive but not high enough volume to be a major impact on games. I am more concerned with losing AJ's defense. He covered up a lot of sins. I think improved penetration is a must regardless of outside shooting. Outside shooting must become reliable when you need it bad. Like when you are down late or when you are up and the opponent leaves you open to take out the post entry.Maybe in that regard specifically we can be better,

You have to wonder (other than Aubrey Dawkins following his father Johnny to Central Florida) why so many players have been transferring from Michigan the past couple of years. I know Spike was told his scholarship wouldn't be renewed to make room for Xavier Simpson. Is Beilein more of a cold and ruthless coach then his persona would leave us to believe?
I haven't followed UM that closely... have they had more that us? Seems like we have 1-2 every single year.

Spike's best season was his junior year when Michigan was dealing with a lot of injuries and early NBA departures. Most people remember the national championship game when he was a freshman, but he was a much more important player for UM when they had a depleted line-up two years later.I'll give you Vince, the others are either unproven (Smotherman, Edwards) or, as you said, to a degree (Mathias). Collectively, you can't compare our ability to create with that Michigan team (Trey Burke, G Rob III, Hardaway Jr) in which Spike played his best ball. That was my point if you re-read what I stated.
I like Spike, but some need to temper their expectations. He will probably man a fair share of minutes for us. Limit turnovers. Move the ball in motion offense. He is not a creator however and defensively could give up a fair share of dribble drives. Don't get me wrong, we are in a better spot because he's on the roster, but that speaks more to the situation the roster is in.

Yes, but Spike's season didn't really take off until Levert and Walton were lost for the year.True. He was a more important player in 14-15 than his freshman year. In 14-15, that Michigan team also had creators though. They had Walton, Irvin and Levert from the wing/guard position. I stand by my post in terms of his game and what to expect.
Simply False. When Spike took over as starting pg....per Michigan article over 11 games as starting pg, Spike averaged:True. He was a more important player in 14-15 than his freshman year.
