Purdue had kicker Jared Smolar from Valparaiso HS on campus Saturday for an unofficial visit and is telling him that he is their No. 1 placekicker prospect right now, but that they are going to wait and see what they are going to do from a scholarship standpoint, which I take to mean that they want to see what Brian Bravo can do for a while before making a call on that.
Minnesota is also on Smolar, but it's recruiting him as a punter. They too are not sure what they're gonna do about special teams scholarships, because they're telling him they might need to scholarship a snapper.
