Sounds Like

In any case IMO, this board is for Purdue news and unless we were recruiting those two players in the last six months... . You have the wrong board with that "news".

Hey bud, some of us are IU fans that actually like to come over here and have civil discussions about basketball and it gets a little annoying being labeled a troll right off the bat because of idiots like you. F*** off.

Thank you. But what type of life does a person have to have to want to create a different username everyday and do this stuff? Pathetic really.

I like the "definitely 100%" line. Should have added a totally in there.

I hope IU gets them both, they need someone to get their 7 forwards the ball, hehe. But seriously, I do hope they get them and we get some actual good games against each other. Last 10 years has been just 1 good team against a bad one it seems. Just leave Brooks and Jackson-Davis for us :-D

I would think IU would be lucky to get one of them. I think Garland is going to Vanderbilt.

I don't mind the trolling so much as some dude (presumably) using terms like "Ro-Ro" and "Rome Rome" to refer to another dude. I really hope the OP is 14 years old. Even then...

Why are all the trolls always IU people? Why can't we mix it up and get some other Big10 trolls? Or maybe IU is the only school with trolls

IU will definitely 100% get Garland and Ro-Ro

This stinks for all of us Purdue fans

Playing devil's advocate , for discussion purposes.

let's say Garland signs with IU. Does anybody here believe he will stay longer than 1 year? And in that one year, will IU be better than Purdue? if not, why would we care who signs with IU ?

and if yo u believe his signing would make IU better than Purdue, what would Purdue need to do to counter their signing? let's treat it like the pros do. If one team acquires a certain player, what would our team need to do to counter their move?

I've often said we are only as good as to how we compare against our opponents. I think we could be a Top 10 team this year. not because we're better than last year, but rather because we were much better than West Virginia this year and they were a top 10 team and we beat them.

to me, we should compare ourselves to our opponents, not our past. if IU lands Romeo, who is better? IU or Purdue? if Purdue adds Tyger? Who's better?

If they was the sign Romeo and Garland to counter that we would have to sign to Five Star players like them. And who's going to be better next year that's probably going to be a toss-up. As of right now they're bringing good players in and could be possibly adding to five stars to what they already have. But that's just my opinion and like my wife always says opinions like assholes everybody has one and they all stink.

Next year we will be inexperienced and young. There is a good possibility that we might finish in the 4-6 range of the BIG. If IU signs both those 5* guards for next year, then they might be better than our team as they stand for 2018/2019. The year after that, after those OAN players leave, we might pick up and beat them. Back and forth - that's the way we should want it. Well, not quite. I really want them to finish second every year and Purdue first. Probably not going to happen that way.

I'd honestly like to see both Purdue and Indiana in the top 15, top 10 for several years. I don't remember the peak Knight and Keady years as I was too young. Rivalry has lost some of its intensity and fire, it seems like, because neither program can sustain solid success at the same time as each other.

IU will never be good until they recruit some good big men. They have ten 6'5-6'6" guys on the roster. The reason that they are the only trolls is because Bloomington is the only Big Ten town that allows them to live under bridges. Sorry, I forgot about Madison.

I would like to see us 1st every year in the B1G and yes us in the top 15 every year....on that we agree.

As to iu....My only care about iu is we beat their A$$ every time we play. And as to the rivalry........be fine with me if iu was last every year in the B1G. It actually is not to our advantage to have a rivalry with iu due to in state recruiting. It would be to our advantage if iu was a cellar dweller.

Purdue will lose a lot of leadership, but the talent of the young guys isn't a drop off. It is hard to compare because the replacements are completely different types of players.

Eastern (or possibly Tyger) will take over for PJ which will be an improvement in most ways outside of shooting and maybe efficiency.
Carsen is one year better.
Cline takes over for Mathias which will be a drop off on defense but Cline has really improved and is a good player.
Wheeler takes over for Vince. Vince is further along shooting, but not need as athletic as Wheeler. Outside of leadership, I don't see a huge drop off here.
Haarms is completely different than Haas. He isn't as slow and lumbering and has much better hands. He can step back and shoot it and finish at the rim without fouling. On defense Haarms is much quicker to react and help.

All of the replacements mentioned will have at least one year of experience.

There may be a slight step back, but they also bring in a Dowuana, Williams, and Hunter with a possibility of adding Tyger. They will be young, but also have a lot coming back. With all of the athleticism coming in, Purdue will have a higher ceiling, but a lower floor. More potential to beat anybody but more potential to lose absolute head scratchers.

It's a bit silly to look a year ahead when we haven't even officially started this year, but Purdue should be 1-3 in the Big next year. Less than that would be a dissapointment. I just can't wait to see the younger guys play and improve. This year will be very fun!

But I do agree with one thing you said why are we even talking about next year when we haven't even started this year yet.

UM....the two are not even going to be close in overall basketball ability. I LOVE Wheeler's potential, but IMO it will surprise me if he is ready to start in 2 years, let alone 1.

Next year will be a rebuilding year for sure. The new guys will take their lumps. Hopefully, playing and practicing with the seniors this year will be a huge advantage for these 5 newcomers. Combined with the 2018 class, I am looking forward to what is to come. These young men have a chance to be something special. The talent is definitely there! We'll see what they can do with it.

I predict a top 8 finish in the B1G next year, but no higher than 4th or 5th, the team will be young and have to learn to play without the 4 seniors. Though the athleticism will be through the roof! Watch out 2019-2020, that's when we will do some real damage.

Well, he will be a sophomore next year and there is no way he will be any worse than Freshman year Vince. I expect at least 10-3-2 for him. Wheeler has so much more spring, explosiveness, and speed. Not to mention, Wheeler can run, pass, and shoot. He should be a starter next year and should be a darn good one as well. he also fits perfect with Haarms, Carsen, and Eastern. There will be a step back, but I would be incredibly surprised if they don't end up in the top 25 overall and top 3 in conference. They will be way too talented even if they don't get Tyger. I don't see Purdue dropping out of the top 25 anytime soon. Especially not with how complete the '18 and '19 classes have been.

Screw that.

I want them to finish 14th every flipping year.

NOT going to happen next year. You need a quality big man to be decent. Not an elite, but a fine big man can keep a team afloat. Then you add a guard or two to boost the team. Even when IU had Eric Gordon, they had more than decent post players to compliment him. Purdue has lacked an elite guard play to get over the hump, but IU in recent years has overlooked the need to fill the interior with dependable big bodies. It will take some time for IU to return to being decent, but I wonder if Archie Miller can outlive the expectation of the IU fanbase.

IU wasn't exactly left with not talent. Losing to ISU like that wasn't a good look for the new coach.

I was comparing player rankings between ISU and IU from 247 which shows how much those are really worth:

Reminds me of the days of Larry Bird and Carl Nicks:
Brenton Scott - 2* - #298
Bronson Kessinger - #321
Jordan Barnes - N/A - #420

Indiana with the roster Crean left behind (some added by Miller late too):
De'ron Davis - 4* - #40
Robert Johnson - 4* - #49
Justin Smith - 4* - #77
Race Thompson - 4* - #77
Curtis Jones - 4* - #85
Juwan Morgan - 3* - #110
Josh Newkirk - 3* - #124
Clifton Moore - 3* - #148
Devonte Green - 3* - #197

ThreeTwaunMoore and Boiler Buck: You'd like to see IU in the top 15 every year? I'd like them to lose every single game until the sun flames out in two and a half billion years.

I don't think Purdue is going to have a Duke astic falloff. Minny will be ok, IU may be better but this idea that a freshman...even a oad is a savior has been proven wrong year after year. MSU may see significant attrition. NW same. Iowa could be preseason favorite and a really good team. Purdue will have a junior Carsen, Nojel and Haarms who will see significant minutes this year, senior Cline, maybe Taylor. Purdue will be playing for a BIG ship again.
