Did he miss the boat? Was there something there some of the admins saw that prevented his hiring at one of the power 5 openings? Was he asking for too many $$? Is he holding out for an ND or like high profile job? Or is it as simple as he just likes where he is?

BTW, watching Wake Forest score on Temple. It's nice seeing a gold and black team with a fun-looking O, can't WAIT for the spring game. Boiler UP!

His wife is from that area. He's making a ton of money in a low need area. He's a hero there. I'm guessing he pays for nothing. Peace of mind and happiness might mean more to him than another mil a year. Or....he could be holding out for Notre Dame.

This has been discussed many times, but I'll bite. I think he was hoping for Oregon but they passed on him possibly due to lack of higher profile experience. Unless he has similar year next year, which won't happen, looking at their schedule they will more likely be 9-3 or even 8-4.
I also think he made a mistake for not talking to us. I think he was he was one of our top 3 candidates rather some of us like to admit it or not.
Now don't get me wrong, I think Brohm is great coach and it's better fit at Purdue. But Fleck won't be in any better situation than he was at this year. BTW, I think they will get hammered by Wisky in the Cotton Bowl too.

I also had the feeling he was looking for a bigger gig and not a rebuilding job. I'm positive MWU gave him a pay raise to stay

he's taking a huge risk for his entire coaching future by coaching his team against UW. If he wins, he will be even more in demand . but if he loses, people will say his wins were against losers like Purdue and Illinois that anybody could beat. I doubt the pros will be looking to hire him. But he's betting one more successful year at WMU will make him more attractive. maybe he won't get the Notre Dame job. but the MSU and North Carolina jobs could open soon.

I don't think he will wind up at nd, they'll probably opt for someone w/ more experience if the opportunity presents itself, I think he will wind up at Minny, which would be a good fit for him and his style. If their coach has an average year plus what went on up there recently, he'll be out.

I would agree Minny would be a good next step for him. and after their coach backed the players' boycott when the evidence was so overwhelming, I doubt he endeared himself to the minny administration. I doubt any major opportunities will present themselves until he proves his ability at a power 5 school. Look at the path urban Myer took and the path Brohm is taking.

PJ Fleck is 0-1 against Purdue.

He didn't win against Purdue. And why do you think msu job could open soon? Have you heard something, or are you starting a rumor?

What happened to Fleck is what happened to rhule he wanted more. Rhule wanted Penn St. So he decided to wait a year instead of taking mizzou. Franklin kicked ass this year he had a good year at Temple. So he took a long term rebuild and culture rejuvenation.

Fleck was thinking Oregon or ND, notre Dame is waiting a year and still even then that's a long shot and Oregon wasn't impressed and decided to go with experience. Next year notre Dame will grab experience and Fleck will get to decide what lower p5 job he wants.

Did I miss something- why would the MSU job open up? I've always heard Dantonio is happy there.

I think Fleck made a big mistake by not talking to us as building Purdue up would have gotten him a top 5 job in a few years. I'm happier with Brohm and can't wait for the next few football seasons, which I haven't said in a while. If Fleck has to settle for a Minny-type job after this year then he really lost his gamble.

total speculation on my part. I believe if offered, Fleck would jump on the MSU job. I believe Fleck's most logical next job would be at an also ran of a major power 5 conference. I could see him taking a job at a school like Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, IU U of I , Purdue or a school like Tenn or Vandy or Cal or Washington or wash st. Somewhere like that. I can't see ny BIG powerhouse like Mich or OSU or USC or Alabama etc taking a chance on him.

one scenario would be nd opens up next year and Dantonio could get that, then PJ to MSU.

Not sure why he would move down. Seriously why do people think ND is still what they were? They are just another P5 school and quite frankly all the Big Ten schools that are good programs are better job than ND.

Another exaggerated, excessive proclamation from an ND hater based on 1 bad season. " just another P5 school" and "Big Ten schools are better programs"? Get serious

Keep thinking ND is prestigious. They're not!

Also I said good Big programs. OSU, Wisconsin, MSU, PSU, Mich, and Nebraska.

I think a major factor in our decline in recruiting decent 3* & 4* athletes to PU can be traced to ND dropping us from their schedule. Not being able to sell a recruit on playing ND every yr with a national TV audience makes a difference. Substituting the likes of Marshall or VA Tech does not mean much to an elite recruit from IN, IL, MI, OH, PA or NJ.

How about the opportunity to get trucked by Lamar Jackson?

I hate ND as much as the rest of you, but it is a much better job than Wisconsin, MSU, or Nebraska.
It used to be...but since Holtz, ND has been turned down time after time by the big names they sought, i.e-Urban Meyer. Then they settled for guys like Davie, Willingham, and "Buddah" Weis. Now those 3 ex ND coaches are scraping the bottom of the barrel and barely employable. If it was such a great job Nick Saban would be there.

Some people on this board are so blinded by prejudice and hate toward ND that it reflects on their credibility.
I did a quick (unscientific) analysis of the Rivals 2017 commitment lists so far for ND, Mich & OSU. ND shows (10) of (17) commits with offers from OSU & MI vs MI w/(10) commits/offers from ND. OSU shows (13) commits/offers from ND. By contrast PU has no current commitments that had an offer from ND, MI or OSU per Rivals, thus far.

To infer that ND has become irrelevant or lacks "prestige" in college FB is an ignorant statement

I don't know what you are trying to prove. Nobody claimed Purdue was in that category at all. Nice straw man.

This started because some claimed Dantonio may leave MSU for ND. In today's college football market that would be a lateral move at best!

So why is ND still a prestigious job? Tell us with facts. Your basically agreeing with me. ND is no longer to be up with the Elites like Alabama, FSU, Or OSU!

Dantonio isn't going anywhere. One bad rebuilding season won't remotely budge him up there. The only way Dantonio goes anywhere is if he gets sick or has personal issues... outside influences aren't going to move him. It was ridiculous how some people were putting him on the hot seat due to this years performance.

the original thought expressed was I thought a logical next step for Fleck would be to coach a BIG 10 school not named Mich or OSU. I included MSU as 1 of 6 possible schools thinking Dantonio might want to move up to a bigger job. as this thread was about Fleck, I thought it would be logical for fleck to accept the MSU job if offered.

whether some believe nd is not prestigious, the fact of the matter is they still have a following and still get alot of 4 stars every year.
