I was laid up yesterday fighting illness, so I apologize for not jumping in after Hayes made his commitment. I do really like the pick up for Purdue, though. Based on film evaluation alone we tabbed Hayes as a 5.6 three-star. Having seen him live this off-season at a 7-on-7 (and a very good 7-on-7, lot of four and five-star types there) that rating was confirmed. I think the academic concerns had schools waiting before they offered, but this is definitely a Big Ten caliber prospect. Great length for the position and very smooth in his turn. And yes, he has enough speed to play cornerback in the Big Ten. I wouldn't say speed is one of his top characteristics, but it is not a negative either. In general terms, I would say he is probably a solid 4.5 type kid.

College coaches covet cornerbacks with length, and Hayes is a plus-prospect in that department. He's a guy I could definitely see starting a couple years for Purdue down the road, and even providing solid depth early in his career.
