Here are some tweets.

Here's more substance.

• I asked Painter who Purdue voted for for Big Ten Defensive Player-of-the-Year. He wouldn't say, but said of course they were happy for Davis and would have been happy for A.J. Hammons had he won it.

Painter went on to say later that coming out of Davis' freshman season, he felt he had the physical ability to be a good defensive player, but never would have seen this coming.

In high school, Davis wasn't much of a defender, which Painter said was a function of a guy who had to score just not putting a lot of energy into it when he was younger.

Painter did also mention how many of Purdue's 'mistakes' on the perimeter Hammons erased this season and talked about the games this season that Hammons simply dominated defensively.

It raises an interesting topic: How much did Hammons' presence, too, help Davis reach this level as a defender?

• Painter said Jon Octeus was considering going overseas or the D-League had things not fallen into place with Purdue. Not sure Octeus has said that before.

• Painter said he never would have seen turnovers being the problem they have been for this team, and that the issue isn't just going to reverse itself overnight. Purdue beat Illinois despite 20 turnovers that led to 24 Illinois points.

• Even though he apparently said on his radio show last night that he thought Purdue was "in" the NCAA Tournament as of right now, he wanted no part of tournament talk today, just going with the "We're just trying to beat whoever we play" line.

• Painter on Octeus: 'He did a lot of little things that don't show up in box score to help us win.'
