Some asked about Jay Simpson recently...

Simpson suffered a terrible medical situation. Not only did it wreck his basketball career, but his team suffered from that event that appeared to be an NCAA birth to a loosing season. But, from his post you can see, not only has he survived, but he has been enjoying the greatest things in life. Those include a wonderful family and peace with God. I really liked him and his game. I hope his current life continues to be as rewarding as he states.

Thanks for posting this, Punaj. Always liked JS. Although it was an unfortunate end to his playing days, it's very heartwarming to see he has moved on with greater strength and peace after some difficult times......has a great perspective now, and he can be a great father and source of wisdom for his son.

JS, Jr.......class of '32?

Thanks for sharing that. I believe he was one of the better inbounds and outlet passers that Purdue had had in a long time. He was only a redshirt freshman, too. Basically, it would be comparable to if Jacquil Taylor had the same thing happen to him in conference play this past season (that's how far along in his career he was). At least he's still alive though, as we have seen another young college hooper from the midwest lose his life recently to due some kind of heart ailment (Steve McElvene). I hope that Jay's able to re-enroll at Purdue (or any college really, if it comes down to it) someday and earn a degree.

This is a great inspirational story, but it is off kilter. God has better plans for Jay. God wants Jay to focus on being a better person, which it sounds like he is. However, the inspiration for young men is not to be NBA players, because all will reach the point that they can no longer physically be an NBA player. It is great to work hard and play in the NBA, but the bigger goal is to keep improving as a person. I hope every basketball player at Purdue aspires to play in the NBA, but foremost is to be a good person and please don't squander the goal of a great education. Basketball is great at teaching kids teamwork and hard work lead to winning. The best part of rooting for Purdue is knowing that the players are good character kids.

Amen. Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people all the time, just not as high profile. What is important is how they handle it.
