"Just a few weeks ago, Matt Painter, in effect, told Rapheal Davis to stop shooting jump shots unless he absolutely had to."

Still can't believe I read that. It is no secret that Purdue wants to pound the ball inside. Been doing it for 3 years now and Purdue doesn't have a tourney appearance to show for it in the two previous years. In order for post players to be effective they need to get good position and a good pass. If your 3 guard doesn't have the support of his head coach to shoot a 3 it is no wander Davis' defender is in the lane hanging around the post making it that much more difficult to play through the post.

And to add to the ridiculousness of that "coaching" from Painter, Davis through two years has not been awful. He was better than Ryne Smith through two years and current green light shooter Mathias. We have so many empty possessions playing through the post and Davis a 30% 3-point shooter should have the green light. Glad he decided to ignore the coaching he received.

If Painter doesn't want his perimeter players to take open 3's it might be time to change his offensive system. Painter still has his guys guard players in non-scoring positions but the rest of the league doesn't do that. The scouting report for Purdue is too easy.

Davis at 30% from 3 is equal to 45% through the post, I am sure when turnovers are accounted for the bigs aren't at 45%.
