But according to Seth, we don't have any talent. Hope the team gets to see his comments.

Far from what he said. Maryland may have the most talented team in the conference. They have more talent but haven't played as well as the talent says they should.

It'll be an interesting match-up. Our first game was a bit strange - a game of 2 completely different halves. We didn't really establish our bigs inside in the first half because Davis went off.

Purdue was sloppy with the ball in the game - with 16 turnovers (to MSU's 9 - MSU is not good with turnovers either).

MSU has given our big guys fits historically. Last year, AJ pretty much got schooled by Costello. This year, AJ played alright, but not great (under 50%). Swanigan had 6 turnovers and was 4-10.

We need to keep our turnovers around even, out rebound them (we did by 3 last game) and our big guys need to shoot over 50% - and I think we can win.

Purdue had to go OT to win at home, with a still recovering Valentine. I like the spartans here.

MSU couldn't even win that game against a Purdue team that played very poorly compared to what we're playing right now and barely won against Maryland today who went about 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half.

See how that works with the excuse making?

Please just show up tomorrow and support the team. No excuses. Watching from my couch out here in CA honestly, our crowd seemed just OK today.

I will be very disappointed, not to mention a little embarrassed if Sparty fans show Purdue fans up like I think they might. If you are on the fence, GO....because you know msu fans will (and they have about a 5 hour longer drive on average than you will...)

bad no call to end the game. Maryland's Trimble should have had 3 free-throws. MSU skates out of BLF and into the confines of the Westin Hotel clinging to a 3 point lead and hoping for dear life that they wouldn't have to face Purdue. I mean, really? Costello vs. our big three? I mean forget Davis. Costello will be relegated to the fetal position and Hammons Haas and Swanigan will be all over the boards, whackin' down shots, driving for lapups, slammin' down alley-oops, slammin' down two handed jams, and just making a wreck of MSU. They have NO chance. Mark it down and come back to this post. Purdue wins the game by 3-5 points. Again, bookmark it baby!!!!!

May the better TEAM win. Boiler up.
The better team is Purdue and you can mark it down, no better yet..... you can put your mortgage on it or if you already own your home (which most of you do), you can put your deed on it. Go ahead, make my day.

I think MSU is thinking revenge for the loss at West Lafayette. They have the player of the year in the Big Ten (who is fully healthy now), the best 3-point shooter in the nation (who has been in a funk for the past couple of days, credit it to Maryland's defense today) and a center who schooled Hammond last year. Not to mention a hall of famer as a coach, an NBA ready freshman, a deep bench, and the thirst for a 1 seed. The Boilers are a good team and seem to be peaking at the right time, but again, I like the Spartans here, who are also peaking in March as always.

If State plays the whole game tomorrow like they did the first half today against Maryland, I think they win by double digits. If they play like they did the second half, we win going away.
It will probably be a combination of those two halves thus coming down to a nail bitting situation and putting me closer to have heart palpitations.....
With that being said, I have no goodcgut feeling either way so I will pick with my head. I think state just has better role players. State by 4.

However, BTFU lets get a chip tomorrow!!!

Well if Forbes had an off day today? He can't be too excited knowing he has to face Davis again tomorrow while playing his 3rd game in 3 days.

Yeah Sparty will be after us tomorrow. I like what Izzo said in his post-game comment about guarding Stephens tomorrow......LOL. Go ahead Sparty, guard Stephens all you want!!
Izzo meant to say Davis. But who knows what tomorrow holds?

Purdue's got the past two defensive players of the year, an All-B1G freshman, the best center in the country, the best backup center in the country, the best HS shooter in the country last year, an NBA-ready freshman, a deep bench... blah blah blah.

Costello in March of 2015: 13 points, 7 reb, 4 blks. Pretty good.

Hammons in February of 2016 (ya know, a month ago): 19 points, 13 reb, 8 blks. Better.

Hammons had a good point total - but his shooting was below 50%.

Costello abused Hammons on the defensive end in 2015. It was probably Hammons' worst game in his "good" phase as a Boilermaker.

Hey, no doubts that Purdue has the best bigs in the country (MSU's are not too shabby though) - and Purdue is able to win tomorrow of course, they is a lot of talent and size in there. But I think MSU is, overall, the better team. MSU just does not have any flagrant weaknesses. Purdue's ball handlers are not bad, but I think that is their area of growth.

Point was that olivo pointed out something that happened 13 months ago, ignoring what happened last month when Hammons dominated MSU defensively and was good enough (6-13, 7-9 FT) offensively.

I would love if Hammond played for MSU, wonderful player and I think there are plenty of NBA years in front of him. However, Valentine was just coming back from surgery in February, and this was a home game for Purdue. Winning in the road in the Big Ten is not easy. I wish we had met in East Lansing this year. I would suggest not to underestimate Costello, Davis and Shilling and to consider other things, like MSU, for instance, is the best 3-point team in the country, and has better defensive stats than Purdue, as also one of the best defensive teams in the country. Being considered as a potential 1 seed is also not too shabby. Just sayin….but, ilke all tournament championships (and we have been in 4 of the last 5), this thing is up for grabs, and as I said before, I would certainly not be surprised at all if Purdue won the game.

Valentine had 27 points on 45% shooting and 40% from 3P along with 10 assists. Let's not use the excuse about his surgery. Him having an off day wasn't why MSU lost.

Otherwise, yes, I agree MSU is probably better overall. I think Purdue's playing as well right now as they have all year, and MSU isn't a bad matchup for Purdue. They're actually very similar teams, but strengths are opposite. MSU is pretty good in the post, Purdue is pretty good in the backcourt. This isn't a situation where Purdue has tough defensive matchups that play away from their strengths like IU, Michigan, etc., and MSU isn't going to press like Maryland and Iowa. So, it's just strength on strength and whomever plays better wins.

As someone earlier pointed out, third game in three days affects shooters more than bigs so that might favor Purdue, though Hammons may be prone to playing lackadaisically if he's tired. He used a lot of energy today.

We'll see. I'm looking forward to it. No prediction... too close to call, IMO.

It's pretty uncanny how similar the teams are, even though their relative strengths are different.

#1 (MSU) vs. #2 nationally in rebounding margin.
Both top 10 rebounding overall.
MSU top 15 in FG%, Purdue top 35.
KenPom ratings:

MSU O: 2 Purdue O: 19
MSU D: 27 Purdue D: 20

Two of the 16 or so potential FF teams in the country IMO.

Should be a great game. I'm glad we get to play MSU and get a chance to show everyone what we can do. MSU is thought by many to be the best team in the country right now. Hope we embrace the challenge and play with no fear. If we continue to play inside out and hit some shots, I like our chances.

One thing to note....Hammons played a lot today. He was clearly tired towards the end.

Hope he's not tired tomorrow. We'll need Isaac to play quality minutes tomorrow.

Hammons will play a lot tomorrow as he should. We are too big to get hurt. Large teams like ours rarely ever get hurt due to our big bones and size.

Hurt isn't what he is talking about. Hammons can be "lazy" sometimes, so if his energy is down, that could be bad. Haas should be plenty fresh, and MSU is a better matchup for him than Illinois or Michigan.

oh ok, sorry. I think hammons just looks lazy when he really is not. perhaps you've been listening to dan dakich too much, lol, lmao but then again, you could have good points.
