So I guess we beat IU for the Governor's Cup for the 3rd straight year.

Clinched this weekend by taking both men's and women's golf. I won't lie, I'd trade this for wins in basketball and football but given where our football program is and the fact we only got to play IU in Bloomington this year I will take this as a consolation prize.

I can't even keep track of what they are calling this thing, much less convince myself to care.

I care about other sports to varying degrees. In general though I believe it is better to beat IU in something than lose to them. Unless we ever have a men's soccer team. Then I will want us to lose every game until we drop the sport.

That already happened. Purdue had a men's soccer program until 1985. The official reason for its demise was title IX, but the more obvious reason was they were abjectly horrible and never were able to beat IU.

since we dont have mens soccer or hockey, what sports do we have that others who have either soccer or hockey dont have?

This is one of those Burke feel good things that I could care less about. The only sport you have to pay admission to we won was volleyball versus IU if I remember correctly? This is one of those "all oars were pulling together things" which neither school really gives a rat's a#@ about IMHKO.

That's nice but its not like Purdue is dominant all-around in its athletics programs. Besides the last 10 years or so in football, aren't they typically pretty average or worse in sports such as track-and-field, cross country, tennis, and the aforementioned long-ago-shut-down soccer program? I know women's golf and men's diving (i.e. Boudia) have been pretty good in that same time frame.

Congrats. as an IU fan, I would rather beat Purdue in any sport, rather than lose. Three years is an accomplishment, and I hope it ends.

Only as a club sport. Don't remember them playing any Big opponents. No scholarships.

I know we had a hockey team (club) back in the 70s and 80s. Seems like they played on the (frozen) outdoor pool at the co-rec before it was remodeled and expanded.
I know I saw a Purdue hockey game in Indy in the 70s - likely at the fairgrounds.

While it may not be football or basketball, remember these other sports are Purdue kids and athletes. They train hard, work hard and probably study harder than the money sports. They are important. Purdue track and golf are certainly on the rise. I wish all Purdue athletes well.

Wasn't there a bad auto accident involving our club hockey team a number of years ago or am I thinking of something else?

It's important to note that there are more schools with women's volleyball programs than there are with men's soccer. Soccer may be a popular sport internationally, but it is way behind other sports in the USA.

I don't remember the hockey club incident. I do remember in the early 80's when the ultimate frisbee club crashed in a university van on the way back from Illinois.

I played briefly with the hockey club my junior year (back in '93). The fact that we had to drive to Indy to practice made me quit after a week.
