Is the pay board worth it?? I'm pretty cheap.
I was a premium member for over 10 years before I dropped it about a year ago. My issues weren't with the cost. $10/month or $100/year isn't bad. Here's my breakdown of the 4 aspects I think someone could find value in:
1. Premium member discussion: There's a few people there that know what they're talking about but it's mainly a bunch of people complaining about everything similar to here only there's many people there that think they are much more important than they actually are.
2. Inside Info: Back when I originally signed up, it was great recruiting info that you really didn't get elsewhere. Of course, that was in the days before everyone paid a ton of attention to recruiting and had twitter. Now you can get the exact same recruiting info for free on twitter within minutes. Basically what you're paying for now is their reaction to news as opposed to the news itself. How much do you value their opinions? That's what that is worth. After ten years I found their opinions and predictions to often be no more significant than my own or any other logical fan.
3. Basketball coverage: Excellent. Brian does a good job with this both in season and covering recruiting in the summer. His predictions on what recruits we'll land varies but I don't really think he should know what a 16 or 17 year old kid is thinking or going to be thinking from day to day.
4. Football coverage: Awful. It was pretty solid when I first signed up but they changed staff and it has really gone downhill since. I have serious issues with things that have been done on this front in the past few years and this is the sole reason I am no longer paying for premium. If they ever fix that problem, I would sign back up but I can't do that in good conscience given the current situation and I think they are happy with the way things are so that's pretty much that.
I might add that there is some coverage of the other programs. Back when the baseball program was good a few years ago they did a nice job with that but as the program has tanked the past couple seasons the interest declined so there wasn't as much coverage but still an occasional blurb about recruiting. Same with women's basketball.
I think you can go month-to-month without commitment so if you're interested you can try for $10 and then cancel if you don't think it's worth it. Make sure to cancel a few days ahead of the auto-renewal because if you hit that renewal date then you're not getting a refund and stuck with the next month. Not a big deal if you are month to month but if you sign up for the $100/year option that auto renews also and since it is once a year it is hard to remember the renewal date and if you miss it you're paying the $100 for another year whether you wanted to or not.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
