There was an article on Sindelar today on the J&C He talked about his injuries, his treatments, and how he is progressing, since we have not seen him on the field since the Eastern Michigan game. The interesting thing was that it sounded like he has a decent chance of gaining a 6th year of eligibility. That would be great to have that experience on the field for 2 more years, if it happens. Do we have any QBs transfer, if this were to happen though?

Sindelar had one foot out the door as well IMO. I have no doubt he would have followed Brohm to Louisville, especially since he graduates in May of 2019. I expect big things for Sindelar over the next couple years!

This might be an unpopular thought, but does anybody see next year working out like this year? Sindelar starts, has a rocky performance, Plummer/Sipe come in and perform exceptionally well. Then we wonder what could've been in the first few games if Sindelar hadn't won the job.

I'm not sure I totally agree with the thought, but i worry that better, younger talent will lose time behind a Sindelar that lost a step due to injuries.

If we need Sindelar for a 6th year, it means our younger guys are really struggling. I would be concerned if he applies for it. If he is not a draft prospect after 5 and not getting beat out by one of the other three guys on the roster, we will inexplicably be very weak at QB with one of the most QB minded coaches in the game.

I would be concerned we lose Plummer if he doesn't get his chance soon.

Huh?

Elijah Sindelar has the best arm of any Purdue QB since Jeff George. Yes, it’s better than Kyle Orton’s

It might be. When Orton was at Purdue he worked a summer QB camp. Joe Kitna also worked that camp. They had a contest to see who could throw it the farthest and Kyle won beating Kitna, who had a very strong arm.

Yeah...Sindelar might have the largest hands on the team. He’s got a cannon.

That’s not how this year worked out. Both QB’s and the entire offense were slow out of the gate. Splitting reps hurt both QBs. BOTH had their struggles. As soon as we were down to just Blough he took off. I have no doubts Sindelar will do the same if given the keys to the car. Look no further than the end of last season when Blough got hurt. David and Eli have been extremely supportive of each other but it has never worked for them to split reps.

I like Eli. But I think the QB transition plan isn't as smooth if he gets a 6th year. Plummer being the back-up next year is perfect and then taking over in 2020 is more perfect. What I definitely don't want to see is the 2-QB switcheroo.

There is no way Sindelar won’t be the starter in 2020 if he performs the way he should.

I don't see us going back to the 2 QB system

@nat100 ?

Is it just like anyone who gets injured later in their career will have a discretionary early redshirt overlooked?
Kinda

They still have to miss a majority of the season. New rules says if you redshirted due to coaches decision, you can still qualify for a 6th year. That wasn’t the case in the past

That's my guess as of now

Plummer as of now

So going into next year, is it 1. Sindelar (Barring yet another injury), 2. Plummer, 3. Sipe. Sindelar aside, who is our QB of the future in your opinion?

Good call. It sounded like Sindelar was seriously looking at going to UL if Brohm would have left. They just put an article out on here tonight.

Thank you to whoever asked the question today (think it was Brian by the voice). Eli confirms that looking over the shoulder may have contributed to the struggles.

I don’t think that stops now. Sounds like Plummer has been looking good. He gets turnover happy and he may lose the job again.

That’s always going to be the case. But much different than splitting first team reps and not ever having a clear #1.
