Since Steph Curry won the NBA's MVP...

Anyone remember being at this game?

I wonder if Chris Kramer sits around and tells his basketball buddies about how he OWNED Curry in that game.

Great reminder. Maybe the Cavs need to enlist Kramer before Thursday! Its a shame that NBA teams don't see the value in a shutdown defender. You'd think seeing Tony Allen work his magic would have clued them in by now...

the team did that, not just Kramer. and I'm not getting romantic about it being a team game or whatever, we gave Curry a ton of different looks with a ton of different guys. and it obviously worked.

I agree with what you are saying, but other than going over or under a screen, hedging the screens at the top of the key with an athletic big like JJ, and switching screens, how many looks can you throw at a team when you play man to man?

We dominated them. I remember being at the Fieldhouse for that game and starting off like 25-7 or something ridiculous. I kept wondering if Curry would catch on and he didn't. We smashed Davidson in the mouth.

I do agree with the above poster that it was a team effort to shut him down, although Kramer was the biggest part. That and Davidson had little else on that team, so we could really focus in on Curry and shut down their entire offense. The Warriors are a different story, and can hurt you in a number of ways. Plus Curry has gotten a bit better :)

I loved Kramer as a Boiler, but I don't think he's in Allen's league defensively (no pun intended); not many are. Allen was 1st Team All-Defense this year, and he is one of the best (if not the best) wing defenders at his position. That will get you a spot with a team for sure. He's also good in transition. Even with that, his offensive game ended up being a liability for Memphis. At times, Golden State used Bogut to cover him (if you can believe that) allowing Bogut to patrol the paint later in that series. Part of the issue may have been Allen's lingering hamstring injury.

I think if Kramer had more offense to his game, he might have found a spot as a reserve somewhere. The NBA has changed a little bit over the last couple of decades on this. Years ago, guys like Kramer had a better shot to have a roster spot. JMHO

...and if you believe the talking heads at ESPiN, with the importance of the three point shot becoming more prevalent, even the really good defensive players are going to need an outside game in the future if things continue the way they are.

I remember being very impressed with Keaton Grant's defense in that game as well. Curry got no break when Keaton got matched up on him. We all remember Kramer, but Grant was also a really good perimeter defender.

to change the subject slightly, Curry was a 3 star recruit coming out of high school...something to keep in mind for further arguments about recruit rankings
