Feels good to finally land a recruit.

Haarms may not be a blue chip but I can guarantee he will contribute. That is more than I could ever say for the JT and the Jacob Lawson's of the world.

You can already tell JT won't contribute? That's amazing

No, you took this post in the most negative way possible. I'm saying that the jury is still out on JT. I questioned if he would ever contribute and still do but he has plenty of time left.

But I am very confident Haarms will contribute.

I think it's more likely than not that JT will have a role over the next couple of years. He gave us a glimpse of his potential against Rutgers last year. Obviously he won't play at that level consistently (if he did he would be first team all conference) but after a few seasons of practicing against the likes of Hammons, Haas, and Swanigan day in and day out he should be able to give us quality minutes against other big men in the conference.

If he were another Lawson he'd have already left the program imo.

Haarms is a great pickup, but I am still loving Jacquil and expect big things from JT as an upperclassman.

My prediction is for Vince to be the most improved player this year, and JT to breakout as an upperclassman

From a JC article on 2014 pre-season
Stephens said Taylor and fellow freshman forward Vince Edwards have emerged as the most versatile players on Purdue's roster. Painter said every aspect of Taylor's offensive game — especially his mid-range jump shot and ability to knock them down when open — is "a little better than you thought it was.

I like this pickup quite a bit. A big man that can shoot the 3 and put the ball on the floor? Yes please.

It's like Matt saw every player I have ever created on NCAA live and went out and recruited him! If he can live up to the success I had with him, we are in for a special year when he gets here! :)

Seriously... this is a good get. If we get eastern we are in good shape.

The haters are going to hate this guy because he isn't a 5 star super stud that can fly and drain 3 pointers from the stands while wearing a blindfold. But he is a pretty good grab and seems to indicate a change in offensive philosophy some. We will be pretty hard to guard if every player can hit the 3 consistently and has the ability to dribble drive.

I agree, the past two recruits can do the things we have not been able to do well ... and that other teams have used against us. There is that other benefit of having players who can do those things in practice.

I don't really see it as a change in offensive philosophy as much as it is adapting the offense to match the personel. Painter never really adopted a traditional 3-2 motion offense until he got Biggie to go wth Hammons and Haas. As recently as 2012, Purdue played without a true post and attacked the basket almost exclusively with slashers. Statistically, btw, 2012 was one of Painter's best offenses.

I have been critical of the recent misses as Painter had not had those could of had the potential of the #1 class in the B1G which I thought was Painter's goal and what he was setting himself up to do. However, all along I said Painter would get a good class just not a great one, based on recent history.

I will admit Haarm's outside shot looks reminiscent of Frank Kaminsky and that gets me excited. Hope he gets there in strength, agility and handles....which he is no where near that now......a lot of potential though. Could easily end up like another Mike Tisdale or Nemanja Calasan type guy that would be a solid team guy, but if he really can shoot consistently, he might have more potential. Looks promising and a good start to what will prob. be another good (not great) class like Painter has pulled lately.

Just for clarification I wasn't trying to dog on JT. I believed he was a project coming in and while I think he will contribute soon, from day one I viewed him as somewhat of a gamble cause of injuries etc. however with Haarms I view it more as a when will he contribute instead of will he contribute. 7'2 and the ability to shoot is something that translates very well. I hope JT ends up being a stud but the jury is still out.

Great pick-up...now if we can get 2 out of the 3 of Eastern, Wheeler, Ondigo, and Manley.......I would love a scorer and a shot blocker.

I like Wheelers potential and Manley is a beast........

Completely agree with what you said. And frankly that might be all Painter needs to do to be successful.

Getting out of the first round needs to happen regardless.
