Failure to gain on a 4th and one turned the momentum. Last week it was failure in short yardage that cost us the game. - IMO we need to hit the hole quicker. We're allowing their linebackers to diagnose where the runner is going.
having a bigger back would help, thought not getting Guerrendo may have hurtFailure to gain on a 4th and one turned the momentum. Somewhat. On the last failed 3rd down and short (to ice the game), we brought the receiver in motion and that left the db/lb free to race in the backfield for TFL. What are we doing?Did the read option have anything to do with not getting yards when they expected run?
Agree. The RPO on a 4 and 1, when they're going to sell out to stop the run anyway, it a bad call. Takes too long to develop, LBs get a head start, your RB doesn't get a head of steam etc.Did the read option have anything to do with not getting yards when they expected run?
To long to develop and there is no depth at the point of the handoff which hurts Mockabee's ability to use his vision.Agree. Downing is like 220, just give him the ball and have him go behind your best run blocker.
On that note, I always think a hand-off out of the shotgun doesn't do the back any favors. He doesn't get that couple step head start into the run. The pistol is ok, but I would rather see more handoffs or pitches out of the QB being under center. But I suppose that sells the run more in this type of offense. To long to develop and there is no depth at the point of the handoff which hurts Mockabee's ability to use his vision.
I get your point about the short side of the field but running that way gives fewer lanes for db's to sneak through. Why not stretch play or pitch to the fastest guy on the team (I think that is Burks). Let your best athletes make plays in space? For all that’s holy don’t run it to the short side of the field. That crap makes me nuts.
In some cases where you gain numbers on the short side with motion, running to the short side can work.....I get your point about the short side of the field but running that way gives fewer lanes for db's to sneak through.
You need to run that set a few times before you actually run it to see how the defense sets up, shades, reacts to motion, etc.Short yardage or not, we have not seen the motion sweep run. Burks has the speed to make it work.
