Shoop and Hudson GONE!!!

What sane coordinators are going to want to come to Purdue? The Head Coach should only have one more year, and he is the dope (unless Burke was involved) who hired the failing coordinators. This situation is completely unstable.

The ineffective fix has Morgan's hands all over it. The hole gets deeper.

Could tell from Hazell's post game comments yesterday on the defensive problems that he was getting ready to toss Hudson under the bus. Never a mention of his own shortcomings.
As for Shoop, that was an idiotic hire from day one - by Coach Hat.

Exactly. It's not uncommon to change coordinators after year 1. You typically see how things go, you don't always get your #1 choices for assistants in a coaching transition, etc. After year 2, if there's not progress shown, you HAVE to show a shake-up of some sort.

These changes should have been made after year 1 or year 2 at the very latest. After year 3, people are looking for an actual coaching change, not assistant change.

And because of that, Darrell Hazell is CLEARLY viewed as a lame duck coach, which makes it extremely hard to attract assistants and also to recruit (see our recruiting class).

This is the Ron Zook treatment. May have been given the option to leave himself or fire the coordinators. Based in payment now (Shoop and Hudson combined for 990k), the AD is going to have to bump up to roughly 1.5mil to get a set of highly successful coordinators to right this ship and get asses in the stands. You throw 750-900k to a highly respectable OC, you'll be surprised who would come here.

could get a guy like Joe Moorhead the current HC at Fordham as OC and then when DH goes 2 or 3 win again promote the OC, at least he has successful coaching experience.

If you are up-and-comer OC, it would be a great situation to come in to. 1). Can you really do any worse than what was here?? Any improvement and you are going to look good. 2). If you aspire to be a head coach and come in and do well, you may be the next coach in waiting. 3). You have a couple of decent QB's and a couple of good RB's, just need to find some decent receivers. Cupboard is not empty on offensive side...just not a coach that can develop the talent.
I don't think it is as bad as one might think!

Would love an up tempo OC that puts 35pts+ a game, gives us the best chance to win. They say D wins games but not so much in college, look at IU. D sucks ass and they still go .500 with a few close looses that could of went their way.

My question for Shoop is why did he never give more than 2 or 3 rbs a carry each season. Knox was not effective at all after the first few weeks we could have given Keith Bryars, David Yancey, or Keyante Green a try.

Purdue will need to actually spend some $$$ to bring in competent coordinators. Shoop and Hudson were both among the lowest paid. Not sure if Purdue will actually open the pocket book though.

One can always dream.

/love the wikipedia page edits, btw.

this is playing out about like i thought it would after DH first season only about a year late. trashed the program but progess will start to be shown and he will finally get close to danny hope's record

the mighty boilers will win 4 games next year and the progress will be so obvious that the haze will be given a big extension with raise. the following season will continue to improve and after 6 seasons a bowl will be achieved

well that sure is optimistic!
can the coordinators bring in a new culture, game plan, etc that would override that of a head coach?
even if it is somehow beneficial for an OC, it's the worst case scenario for the whole program imo.
it just seems like this will allow the slow, painful death of the program to linger even longer.

But Captain Morgan can give the appearance of progress while Rome burns.
Looking forward to the next South End Zone survey this coming spring !
Bonuses all around !

The OL sucked why the hell is Bridge not gone too? Secondary coach? Special teams? The team was terrible in every category why not just can the HC?.....oops I forgot.

Which will be the first domino to fall? If K.Smart takes the SC or Georgia job he will take assistants from Bama w/him. In return Saban will have to fill his job etc..Georgia, SC, USC, etc... all jobs require new staffs so at least Purdue can be an option for all resumes.

Doyel wrote up the HC of New Pal calling him the next Art Briles or Gus Malzahn, maybe we should hire him as OC. I mean what the hell, he's 31 and seemingly an offensive genius. He could probably recruit well, too. I feel like taking a chance couldn't hurt Purdue football right now.

Also I agree with the posters wondering about Bridge. How in the hell did he survive? OL was supposedly a strength and they were atrocious.

It's official. D Line coach also gone.

I liked Ruben Carter. Nice guy, good worker, great rapport with D line (after a couple dozen visits to practices this fall). Had NFL experience, which is something that I think we should've valued.

Putting pressure on the QB is more than just defensive linemen, it's a function of defensive philosophy. How many times did we blitz IU yesterday, once?

I'm partial to a man who is a hard worker and a gentlemen (but then I'm biased, since he always was working hard and was cordial to me at practice).

A fish rots from the head down. Why Purdue would fire only OC and DC and leave their boss and his boss in place if really puzzling.
In Corporate world, for 3 continuous years a company fails to come close to breaking even. Looses market share, but fires the CFO and Marketing VP without removing the CEO who directed the down fall. In the real world, every share holder would sell asap.

FINALLY!!!!
And it is not as though we are just underperforming. Purdue is last in every category. Worst looking stadium all the way down to worst defense, worst offense, fewest wins, last in field goals even. Worst loss to IU in Purdue history. Worst 3 year consecutive performance in Purdue history. We are not just bad we are making history in the worst kind of way. Last in football revenue. Right now the university should be taking a serious look at the football situation. This is an opportunity to bring to light just how bad things have gotten and hopefully get the right people involved in turning this thing around ASAP.

Offensively maybe restructure the staff to have a dedicated QB coach and a separate coordinator to oversee everything. Like Chaney in the hay day coached TE. TE could get Indy work with him or split time with OL and WR freeing up a coach to watch the whole thing.

Check out Shoop's Wikipedia page. xD
That is the funniest thing I have ever seen on Wikipedia!

"On January 24, 2013, Purdue University head football coach, Darrell Hazell hired Shoop to be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Boilermakers football team after taking a year off from coaching. One of the worst decisions in NCAAF history.[7]Purdue's offensive struggled in 2013, as Purdue was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time in 60 years, and struggled to reach 300 yards of total offense on a weekly basis. His innovative horizontal passing attack failed to catch on in West Lafayette, perhaps due to its inherent lack of forward progress."

Haha...that is sooooooooooooooooo true. So true though. This was the most horizontal offense ever devised. The problem is the results were equally horizontal.

Deck chairs on the Titanic. Nothing to get excited about until both Hazell and Burke are gone. Burke clearly knowns nothing about hiring a football coach or about football in general. I don't think Hazell knowns much more unfortunately. Seems like Daniels and the BoT at least are willing to give money to football. Unfortunately, the people they have in place to put the money to good use don't know squat in comparison to people who can build a respectable program. Idk if we break .500 in the MAC this year lol

What kind of coaches are going to want to come to Purdue....Probably thinking that if the team has another year like this one ...DH is probably going to be showed the door....Along with everyone else...It's not like this team was a few plays from being bowl eligible
