I wish the white shirts were black. The green ribbon would stand out more and people who refuse to wear theme shirts might have black on anyway.

That lime green is typically for lymphoma. Isn't that what Andrew Smith from Butler just lost his life to? Maybe it's a nod to him?
I'm sure the commentators will talk about the shirts on more than one occasion.
Don't you understand it's cool and will lead to 5 star recruits flocking to Purdue much like the gimmick unis have done for the FB team?Nothing to do with it. Purdue chose to use this neon green color a couple years ago. Our football team has had uniforms with it in there. Not sure why we need neon green. Just use a standard yellow if you want something bright/off-color.
Nothing about this looks "Purdue"...

You must be color blind like me. I couldn't read the words on my own shirt, ha. Still, a good cause and such a minor effort to put them on when they are laying on the seat. Disappointed so many did not.I've got to be honest...the shirts looked like straight dog shit on TV. I spent the entire game squinting to try and read any single one of the shirts. I could not make out a word, a logo or any kind of image on the shirt. The green with our gold looked horrendous, there was a green reflection on the floor on low angle shots and too much organic black in our crowd lessened the effect of the white shirts.
I applaud the sentiment, but this made us look bad on TV.
My wife asked me why the guy with the big hair (Biggie) wasn't wearing the neon socks like the rest of the team...any idea why? Seems like a little thing, but if everyone else wore them to "Hammer Down Cancer", why couldn't he too...doesn't seem very team-oriented (at least that was her opinion)

I never fail to be amazed by the people who bitch about something that is A) for a very good cause and B) so trivial.
While it is "in the weeds", I just think it's a missed opportunity for Purdue's overall brand.
I could have told you the white t-shirts were going to look bad (I made a post saying such prior to the game). It looked bad on TV.
If you're going to give out a t-shirt to every person in the arena to wear - and if you're going to go for some color scheme/design with it - it has to be something people want to wear. Highlighter green is not something desirable to most people - the kids will wear it, they'll wear anything, which is why I said I would have put the "ribbon" part of the design in the student section so it would actually be clear.
Secondly, for a school that struggles with brand awareness and colors over the years, putting highlighter green as a prominent thing is probably not the greatest idea. Do you see other schools with great branding divert from their colors? Not really (there's probably a reason they have great branding!)
If you wanted something that wasn't totally official Purdue colors, give the students a standard yellow ('canary' if you will) and give the rest of the fans black and people will wear it.
Last thing I'll say is that this was a prime exposure for Purdue. Being on ESPN on 9 pm on a Thursday night is probably going to be one of our highest viewed game of the year. This game has also been used by Purdue as their "picture of Mackey Arena" in the past couple years because everyone is wearing Purdue colors, well not this year!
I'm not saying Purdue shouldn't do something for a cause, even if it's just awareness. But you couldn't read any of the shirts from TV (highlighter green on white does not stand out - and white on highlighter green also does not stand out). Highlighter green isn't some well known cancer awareness color (is it used in other cases? Sure, but it's not something people know - like pink for breast cancer).
Why not add 2 decals, like the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, with a "Hammer Down Cancer" logo on there on the court? Then when you're sitting there watching the game - hey it adds up.
I love that Purdue has a campaign like this and Purdue is fairly unique in their cancer research. I'm simply saying I think it can be a LOT better and a LOT more effective.
Agreed. As much as I love seeing the Old Gold and/or Black throughout Mackey, I am at least as happy that non-Boiler fans are made clearly aware of the research center designation and the value that Purdue and a Purdue education have in the real world.
Thank you for stating this. I was going to mention the same thing but you beat me to it. If you ever watch some of the warm ups, the nongame film in the pep up videos, you will see AJ, and Vince wearing the neon bracelets. I am proud to say those bracelets have my son's name on them, these players bring a tear to my wife's eye every time she see's these young men supporting a child they barely know.1) Can't add decals -- NCAA forbids it now.
2) It was the Hammer Down Cancer game... If anyone did any research, here is why that color was chosen:
The t-shirts are either white or volt and are in support of the Purdue Center for Cancer Research. The volt color honors cancer survivors and is inclusive of all cancer survivors.
Since 1978, the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research has been a National Cancer Institute-designated basic-research cancer center. Only seven institutions in the United States have earned this title. Being a basic-research center means it doesn't treat cancer patients directly. Their work focuses on investigating cancers where they begin - at the cellular level - to investigate the cause of, and cure for, one of the most devastating killers of our time. Doctors and scientists throughout the world use their discoveries to develop methods, medicines and medical devices to save and enhance patient lives.
3) I don't think the shirts were really meant to be "read."
4) The highlighter green was in the student sections. I will say that 100 percent of the students there wore the T-Shirts.
5) If its too much issue wearing a T-shirt (a WHITE one, by the way), I am guessing the athletic dept. may not do this last night. I thought the green looked awesome. The white, which should have looked awesome, was meh...

Thanks for pointing that out 02. Could be she happened to walk in when Haas was in for Hammons and Vince was on the bench too. I didn't pay much attention to it, but you know how women can really pick up on how guys dress sometimes...lol.Hammons & Vince weren't wearing the socks either (at least that's what it looked like on my screen).
edit to add: I'm not trying to knock AJH & Vince for not wearing the socks either. Just trying to point out Biggie wasn't the only one. Could be plenty of reasons including taping ankles, etc. Not a big deal.
