Seeding Affected by BTT?

Haven't heard it will affect us. Did hear one of the pundits say that a UM tourney win could flip them seeds with minny. Speculation right?

Probably would have helped Purdue and Minnesota the most....just speculating there. And that's looking just to appearing in the final. The Board is usually set by the time the game ends unless it would affect an otherwise at-large bid, which it won't.

Regardless, I think Michigan has played itself off the 8/9 line and is probably headed to a 7.

How much will seeding in NCAA tournament be affected by winning Big Ten Tournament????

I think the easy answer is that it depends who you beat on the way.

Purdue's loss probably won't have a big effect - it lost to a solid tournament team who is now playing in the championship game after beating another tournament team.

And not to play into the ACC card, but Duke beating Louisville and UNC is a possible seed-changing run. They had kind of limped through the final part of the conference season, but have put together some very nice wins. That's something that can restore faith. However, if Duke had beat a couple non-tournament teams to get to this game - not sure it would have mattered much (even though it is Duke, so of course it would ha).

The better you are as a team or the higher you are ranked the less I feel a conference tourney can do for you. Lose a game and maybe drop a single seed. Win multiple games and maybe move up 1 seed. Teams like Michigan or NW have far more to gain seed wise compared to us. Duke's wins over UNC and Louisville were very good wins but I don't think it will get them any higher than a 3 seed. They still have 8 losses and could get their 9th tonight. Could be be wrong and they swap with Louisville or UNC and get a 2. Very few teams even have the opportunities to get a top 10 win let alone 2 although Arizona will get the chance against Oregon tonight.

I believe if Purdue had won the BIG10 tourney, they could have climbed up and claimed a #3 seed and maybe play at Indy.

I think we were a 5 either way. When Wisconsin was 7th in the country they were a 5 (or worse). Right or wrong there isn't a lot of love for the big 10 this year. No way we would have been any higher than 4 regardless.

If Michigan wins the BIG tourney, with the way they have finished the season, I think they should be seeded way higher than 8th, maybe 6th or higher. What happened to looking at last 10 games played? Wisky stumbled badly to end the regular season and I think their wins the last 2 days should put them in the 4-6 range. I fear Purdue may slip to 6th.

There isn't a single argument for Wisconsin to be seeded ahead of Purdue nor will it happen. Last 10 games was eliminated as far as criteria or a factor in seeding. We are also 8-2 in our last 10 which is better than the rest of the big 10.

To be fair to Wisconsin, they also smoked Minnesota in the last regular season game. I think now that they have their guys healthy, they are getting back to where they were. Although they aren't nearly as efficient as they used to be - but given the seeding they'll get, I would not want to be a better seed playing them.

But as someone else pointed out, Purdue is also the best in the Big Ten over the last 10 games.

I think Louisville and Kentucky have been slotted there for a while now. Will Purdue still be placed in Milwaukee, or will that be Butler, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, or somebody else?

It's also not always a given that you get the closest location. Sometimes it's just not physically possible depending on how the bracket shakes out.

Not sure location will matter much - we won't end up in Indy no matter what as you mention. Milwaukee we may end up with a 100 or 200 more fans than other sites - I don't see Purdue fans taking over Milwaukee considering we've struggled to make Indy a dominant home court.

Obviously it'd be nice to avoid a home court advantage for another team, but I also don't think it's terribly meaningful. I think we play better in a more competitive atmosphere than a more neutral/lighter scenario (i.e. Penn State, Big Ten Tournament crowd and if I remember right Iowa was somewhat blah).

Not critical....maybe it will be good for the Boilers to travel. The only guarantee you get is if a top 4-seed, there is no home crowd disadvantage, in the first round. Sometimes, teams can worry about too many things.....play your game.....and play like it could be your last one.

I think it will probably help Michigan the most. That team has really caught fire over the past month.

I really won't mind if Purdue slips to a 6, especially if it means playing in Milwaukee. But I think Purdue will stay a 4 or 5 seed.
