I couldn't believe when Burke came out and said that Hazell will be back next season. What is this guy thinking? He said that he have shown progress. I like for him to tell us more about that. This hole program is getting deeper and deeper in a hole. Thanks to Burke and Hazell it will take a while to come out of it.

I see no progress anywhere. Maybe he said it to keep the recruits from defecting and after we lose 3 more in a row it'll change. I can dream anyhow...

well they'll defect when he's fired then anyhow so it wasnt some ploy to get kids to stay on board. I think everyone has to come to terms w/ the fact that Hazell isnt going to be fired this year.

Most kids stay committed to a program when there's a coaching change. Not all, but there typically isn't mass defection.

So Captain Morgan has responded to your emails and letters with a long middle finger soon to be followed by requests for money and a promise of rainbows and unicorns. He knows better than you uninformed minions (perfectly displayed by his hiding in his suite on Saturdays).
The question is : how are you all going to respond?
(Hint: cut the cord....)

I don't see myself going to any football games next season. I go to the game and they look like complete crap and I leave frustrated. I guess winning 2 games this season is enough progress for Burke?

I am giving up my 2 season tickets, feel for the guys on the team

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but I don't get the 'feel bad for the players' type of comments. The players chose to come play here under Hazell. The assistants have been retained. It's not like they got recruited by some assistant and Hazell fired the assistant - he hasn't fired one guy. And quite frankly, many of them have no business playing in the Big Ten to begin with.

Like you, I don't feel bad for the players...if I did, it would be in the sense that they were mislead about the program and that they had no way to know that the coaching would be so poor (making their experience far less and far worse than they ever could have imagined). At the same time, I have a hard time blaming the players, at least for the fact that they are not talented enough in many cases...not their fault, and they have not been coached well on top of it...if they do what is expected of them (i.e., go to class, go to practice, put time in on their own, represent the University, etc.), then their having accepted the scholarship that was offered to them is not worthy of criticism...at least not worthy of criticism of them.

18 years old , makes a decision to come to a Big 10 school , and its the worst 3 years of Purdue Football ever, yeah I feel for the players, I can only imagine what they were told during recruiting. But then again , what do I know, have been called an idiot before.

I started following Purdue football in the days of Phipps and Keyes. I went to all the games for decades. I started to miss games during Hope's tenure because I couldn't take watching the coaching blunders. Who knew it would get worse under Hazell! This year I only went to one game. I went to the VT game because my brother, who has season tickets, gave me tickets and I felt obligated to go. My brother is not getting season tickets next year.

I mean, I get what you're saying....but it's not like Purdue was a solid Big Ten program when Hazell took over either. I don't wish ill will on them. The fact of the matter is that many do not belong at a Big Ten school. And I don't really know much about the work ethic of the team - you don't really hear it touted, yet you don't hear grumblings it's a joke. So who knows.

there is probably not enough talent to win a conference title but plenty to win 6 games this year with coaching

Marshall and Bowling Green would have been wins with better coaching. With better coaching we would have been at least competitive with Minnesota and Illinois. Tiller would have had this team at 6 wins. Hope would have had this team at 6 wins!

I go back to the late 50's and early 60's. Red Mackey ALWAYS said what drives the locomotive was football. After him it has been many small missteps and a few blunders and few uppers to get where we are. Many bad coaching hires a few good ones, losing our Chicago pipeline for recruiting, losing focus on the engine. It is what it was. I have never felt more apathetic toward our sports program.

I agree with the Hope part. True Hazell has us competitive in losses like MSU and UW. Those are games Hope teams would have gotten beaten by 40. But I think the Hope teams and the offenses under Nord (gosh what does that say about Shoop when Nord offense look impressive) would have scored some points. I think under Hope we would have won at Marshall, vs. Bowling Green, and I really believe won vs. Minnesota and Illinois. True our Defense was bad but 3 and out after 3 and out after 3 and out does not help. I think Hope would be 5-4 and the IU would be 6 for a bowl. People, myself included, disappointed with 6-6. I now appreciate 6-6.

I never thought I would wish that Hope was our coach, which I do today.

Well for optimism's sake let's say it ain't true. Let's say that they felt a need to get a statement out there short of canning Haz to stop the decommitting hemorrhaging. Then you could say that they want to see how the last 3 games of the year pan out before making a change announcement. Or perhaps they do feel that a coaching change would have been too difficult in this competitive environment. Nobody in their right mind can look at this thing objectively and really feel that things are going in the right direction.

There was 0 chance Burke/Daniels were going to fire Haz this year. Now that Big M little organ said Haz is back next year there is even less than 0 chance.
