I will write a generic story on the front page here in a bit, but here's some quick blurbs of importance from today's Camp #1.

• Purdue had two of its top defensive back targets, Chicago's Byron Perkins and Michigan's Vincent Gray, in camp today. A third, Elijah Ball, intended to come, but something came up, I guess.

Perkins should be a considered an odds-on favorite to be one of Purdue's first commitments. He has a Purdue offer, Purdue is working to get him to commit, and he just told us a literal wink-wink that if a offers don't come from upcoming camps for Ohio State, Penn State and might have been some others, that he's committing early and has a good idea what he's going to do.

Thus, the wink-wink while standing on Purdue's campus.

Perkins is gigantic. He says he's 6-2. Man, I don't know. Maybe it's optics, but he looks taller than that and his wingspan is pterodactyl-like.

Purdue's offered preceded those from New Mexico and some MAC schools and regional Illinois school.

Gray is very similar to Perkins in his legitimate size and length. He has more than 20 offers and this was his third visit to Purdue of the spring/summer. I get the sense Purdue is going to be a factor there, for certain, with a summer decision planned.

• Kentucky offensive tackle Will Bramel could also be on commitment watch for Purdue. He has an offer, it remains his biggest offer and he said he may decide later this month or in early July. He has some background with Purdue and vice versa, so they know him.

He passed the eyeball test today in terms of size, at least to me. He's a good-looking tackle prospect.

• A top Class of 2019 visitor was defensive end J.J. Weaver from Louisville. He'll be an offer guy if he's not already. Very impressive looking player.

• Some quarterbacks: I didn't see Michigan's Bryce Veasley who we'd told you was coming, but Matthew Baldwin did make it up from Austin, Texas, and Kentucky's Drew Zaubi did make it as well. Didn't get to watch them throw as much as I'd have liked, but they look like prospects superficially.I think you're going to see more names come into play nationally at QB, though, for Purdue

.• Lawrence North linebacker Maliq Vann is a player Purdue seems to like in the state. He was there. A well-put together middle linebacker-looking player. Didn't get an update from him, but told him I'd catch him Sunday on the phone.
