Usually on the broadcast, you don't always see CMP or the other coaches.....and posters who were at the game give us some keen observations. However, last night, it looked like CMP was "active" in pleading his case...during the game and at breaks. I also saw Jay Wright do that a couple of times.
My only real criticism on the officiating was it just seemed to have been an "over-officiated" game...though it seemed even-handed to me, and Purdue I think got a couple of breaks as did Nova. Some good things......called some of the push-off arm-bars....one was probably a good sell against Nova.....called a carry and some of the points of emphasis. There was a stretch though where it seemed every possession, there was a whistle. Maybe I was just too into the game emotionally. However, it just seemed this crew was a little giddy and became whistle-happy on both sides. JMO. I chuckled on one of the sideline calls off of BS (which was a good call), I thought the official was going to slap the floor like a defender. Crispin on the BTN broadcast went off on them several times about wondering what they were seeing or how do you call that...on some of the inside stuff....both ways.
One good thing is that the Boilers learned how to play with foul trouble on the bigs....both in a substitution pattern and avoiding fouls on the floor......IH still needs to be a little careful on that score. I think if he pulls his arms back more going straight up, he can avoid that call.....
It was an entertaining game for me except for the final result. As others have posted, turnovers, FT's, and inability to consistently hit the timely shot (except for PJT's half-court bomb) ultimately cost the Boilers IMO. It was heartening to see them come back twice from a double-digit deficit when things were slipping away.....hopefully that mindset/experience pays off with dividends down the line.
