Reese Taylor

With the number of Defensive backs Purdue went after in Portal, I am wondering if Trice’s injury was pretty bad and the coaches don’t know if he can comeback and play like before the injury

I wonder if his schollie was non renewed
Could be, but given the number of senior starters they had this year, combined with the guys already in the portal, it’s not like they are in a numbers crunch. I’d think they’d be trying to keep as many guys as possible, but maybe when you go 0-9, not so much?

IU doesn't pull schollies. They (unwisely IMO) implemented a Student Athlete Bill of Rights under AD Fred Glass that guarantees a schollie for 4 years/to academic degree after a kid signs his LOI.

Hope you can get more production out of him than we did.
Yeah, those 4 year schollie s have conditions. They aren’t much of a guarantee

He was a guaranteed starter next season at a position of need, which is every position on both sides of the ball for them. When he wasn’t able to go this year because of injuries, it impacted them big time. Yet another multi-year player and starter who couldn’t wait to punch out from the LEO culture, just like Peyton Ramsey and Coy Cronk. The RevCoach LEO lost his team last year, and plenty of their guys are eagerly looking for another home.

He was guaranteed to be a major contributor and part time starter. The season was going to start with Mullen at CB1 and then Reese & Jaylin splitting CB2/nickel.

Your overall point holds that he would’ve seen major snaps. If he’d have stayed I would have said CB was IUs position group with least needs since everyone would be back. I still think they’re probably the best returning group, but this loss will hurt.

I went back and rewatched the highlights of the bucket game. I thought #2 did a decent job all things considered. That #23 though.. O’Connell picked on him all game long. Good luck with that.

Sucks to see Reese go. He would have been a major contributor for us, but he would have been splitting time with Williams as long as Mullens was healthy.

I wish him nothing but the best, except when he faces us of course.

So what's the real deal with LEO and his program??
Cleaning house after a two win season or has he lost his team?
One would think that if the place was on fire that info would have polluted the recruiting efforts..?

Yeah I wish I knew. A lot of the folks on the IU side are put off by LEO. I’m not one of them, I just think it’s a catch phrase putting in words what every team-oriented enterprise wants to do (I.e., team before self, sacrifice yourself for your brothers, all of that).

Some of the transfers seemed really conventional regarding normal stuff like playing time (e.g., Sampson & Baldwin), others seemed premature and more likely because they didn’t feel a good fit (Lewis). Others have been real head scratchers like the LB Miller, WR Marshall, and Reese.

It doesn’t seem to have killed recruiting (this year), but the prospect of relying on a bunch of freshmen to fill out depth is not ideal, to put it mildly.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Not really. If he didn't want to be at IU then all the best to him.
You guys can downplay it all you want, but, it is a blow...and, a statement...a HUGE one at that.

The kid made a poor decision to go there...he gained next to nothing from being there, and, fortunately, realized it before it was truly too late. He wasted a couple of years which is unfortunate for him.

LEO is as hokey as "Adding a brick" or whatever the stupid thing Hazell was pitching.

His first year was hijacked by needing him as an emergency QB. That’s on the coaching staff, although I don’t think they expected the Arizona transfer to bail when he didn’t get the starting nod. Still, they needed more depth at the position.

2nd yr was uneventful.

He played a big role in 2020. Got hurt in 2021.

He played a lot of snaps at CB when heathy, so I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say he got next to nothing. But if he thinks a change of scenery would help him, god bless him.

He wants to play for a winning program. IU is going down the tubes bit-by-bit. Important coordinators have left and were replaced less-capable ones and IU has had inordinately high attrition through the portal. Players aren’t buying what Coach LEO is selling.

According to 247 sports, IU has the 4th best recruiting class in the B10 and a top 20 (17th) class nationally. In addition, IU has one of the top five "transfer portal" classes. Kind of makes me think there are still some LEO buyers.

And when IU is terrible again next year, how many of those recruits will still be there? Gary Busey Jr is getting a staff of recruiters and no one on the staff is actually a good coach.

IU's "greatest recruiting class ever" in 2019 is almost all gone via the portal. What is going to be different about this latest version?

IF IU is terrible again next year, which remains to be seen, Allen's seat will become a little warm.

Time will tell how this latest class turns out. You don't know, I don't know, nobody knows.

Allen is your coach for many years to come. You can’t afford to buy him out, even though you may well want to soon enough.

They, like those that are bailing, will realize that it is just something hokey.

If you...or anyone else...can't see that when the best players in the program are giving up on it and/or leaving is FAR more indicative of the true state of the program, so be it.

The ranking is irrelevant, more so if there is not a coach/staff in place to do anything with it...and, those guys will recognize that soon enough and move on just as quickly as well...I mean, it was only a year ago that Indinia was a national darling and the talk of the country (despite it being ridiculous)...a year later, guys are bailing right and left.

There are LEO buyers...same as there are guys that buy into what is being sold at any number of other places...but, in the end, guys care about winning and getting a chance to play on after college ideally...and, neither of those are happening down there.

The “buyers” are people outside the program. That’s how you know the culture is poor. Too many players and coaches internally want out. There’s a reason Mark Hagen couldn’t wait to get out and had zero interest in going back. As for your recruiting class and portal pickups, many will never make an impact. It’s the worst program in the Big Ten and it keeps getting younger and less stable. Two to four wins next year puts the RevCoach LEO on the hot seat, ensuring the instability continues.

Unlike Allen, who was gift wrapped a program that he’s destroying, your next guy won’t be so lucky. He‘ll be left with little talent and even less support, but he’ll have a paved parking lot where the typical 25k can tailgate. Luckily, you’ll get OSU and their 20k+ every other year, so you won’t have to toss all of the stale hotdogs and popcorn.

Agree to most of this. Wasn't most of this team back from the 2020 season? If so, that would concern me in a big way. Key leaders at many positions and couldn't win 1 B1G game....that's coaching.
