ummm ... really? I think the "finally" is not valid. Painter made a good decision ... rings better to my ears.
This means that the players and the families agreed. Win-win. It's going to be a heck of a freshman class next year.
Got a question. Does this mean no Tyger? I mean this gives us 5 for next year class. If we got Tyger that would mean 6 in the class of 2018.
Doesn't change anything for next year. Still have 2 open scholarships. It changes things when these guys are 5th-year seniors and still on scholarship. That could be another awesome senior class with the 3 frosh coming in.

I like that plan. Sasha would be hard pressed to see minutes this year. Wheeler has shown a lot of flashes, but also some lapses. I believe Wheeler is more talented than Ewing, but I would never be in favor of redshirting a juco. I'm understanding that in declaring a player to redshirt, that if injuries occur, that player could be activated.

Yes. I believe Jack Mathew is a non-dressing walk-on player. He played locally at Harrison High School. Good player overall.
So it's possible Matthew could dress for a game in the future, while Sasha sits and watches?
A redshirt player can enter a game at anytime - thus making him a player for that year. There is no formality - just put him in. Whether a coach chooses to do that would depend on a dozen variables. Late in the year, every game is important...
Redshirting Sasha makes sense, I’m a little disappointed that wheeler is also going to shirt. I wis he could have grabbed control of the Vince backup minutes. He definitely looks the part.
Honest question, has painter ever had a redshirt that ended up being a big time contributor?
Purdue could end up having two on the team playing now.....Jacquil Taylor and Matt Haarms......we shall see.
Tarrance Crump was technically a red-shirt, but that was for disciplinary reasons during his transfer/transition, IIRC. Ryne Smith would have been the one, and he is the player Coach Painter has been on the record for saying would have been better served (from all perspectives) if he red-shirted. You just never know.....Anthony Johnson was a top-100 recruit who at the time looked to be a potential starter/contributor down the line.....sometimes, it just doesn't work out.
IMO, this current situation with Sasha Stefanovic and Aaron Wheeler is more about Purdue's depth than the potential skill/work ethic/potential of the players.....but that could be my Black & Gold glasses blurring my vision.
I think Painter is playing the ods game with Wheeler. It looks right now that min. Would be limited, so a shirt year would be great if he can get it. Say VE goes down for a month, Wheeler would play.
Haarms appears to be a contributor one game into his redshirt freshman season.
Brian Cardinal was pretty good and a redshirt.

These moves make me feel like I did Thursday when I heard Rian Johnson (director of THE LAST JEDI) has been hired to create three more STAR WARS movies. Namely, this is a huge vote of confidence to the remaining eligible players (in the same way signing Johnson for a whole trilogy is a vote of confidence to THE LAST JEDI).
