Recruiting takes a hit

Rumor as it .... Collin Miller no longer planning to play football at Purdue University.

A symptom of a much larger problem.

Besides this kid never has seemed Purdue bound = no net loss.

Hazell and crew have close to zero chance of turning around this program, recruiting failure is a significant contributing factor.

The did land a beast of a wrestler in Shawn Streck from Merriville High School in the region. He's going to be two time state champion barring injury this season. He's one of the best in the country. From what I hear he is allowed to play football also. I've never seen him play but wrestlers tend to be very good o line and d line.

Like another Pirate grappler, Dexter Larimore who went to a place called Ohio State.

Collin Miller was never coming here and that was evident by his Twitter. No mention of Purdue ever, but he sure likes to favorite anything that has to do with IU.

Rumor has it that neither Purdue nor IU are in the conversation. Miller going to take a hard look at Mississippi State among others.

Well he's been favoriting alot of Miss St tweets too. Haven't looked in the past month cause it was clear as day he wasn't Boiler bound. But the zero mention of Purdue since he "committed" showed me he'd never step foot on campus to play here.

Just looked at his Twitter just now, Nebraska seems to be his flavor of the month.

Unfortunately, things will get worse before they ever get better. We have a losing team that is zero fun to watch in any aspect of the game. The stands are more and more empty each week, and our coaching staff is most likely done within the next couple of years. Now what reason would any recruit with other options come here?

Shawn Streck is indeed a beast. 4 year starter on the DL at Merrillville. I saw this kid play in Jr Bulldogs in CP even before that. I wish IU would have gotten him.

Why would any capable college athlete be interested in joining our current football program? It is a disaster.

No doubt. Hazell and staff are driving us deeper and deeper in the ground. You thought things were bad when Hope left, just wait.

Half of next years recruiting class will e made up of JC players..................just watch. Our brain dead adm. just doesn't get it!

I know Purdue is a dumpster fire right now,but is IU a place he would go to?If Wilson comes back next year,it will be his sixth year with a possibility of no Bowl games in five years, and a Big Ten record of 7 wins and 33 losses.Yes,the Hoosiers may win two out of their next three ,but I wouldn't bet on them beating Michigan or Maryland.I think they beat Purdue, but remember they blew a 25 point lead at Gloomington to Rutgers. But then, maybe IU has a different coach than Wilson next year. Who knows?

We are bound to lose a number of commits this year. This one should be no surprise to anyone.
Most are 2* players so they might stay! It's not like Purdue is competing against the likes of ND, Michigan or OSU for recruits. Purdue is competing with the likes of Ball State, Indiana State for recruits.

Sadly this is true. Most of our recruits do not have another P-5 offer.

Get rid of coach, get a new one asap, start recruitment ,give fans some optimism, and help us forget the last 3 years, is it that hard to understand?????

Collin Miller announced Monday he's longer committed to the Boilermakers. Miller's departure leaves Purdue with eight commitments in its 2016 class.
...and we'll be losing another 3* recruit in the near future...guaranteed.

I understand the need to pile on, but 6/8 are 3* and half do have at least one other P5 offer.

This is a point worth repeating. As terrible as things are, I was at least mildly impressed with the quality of this class. It's not going to be ranked very high due to its small size, but we seemed to be getting some decent signees before the season started. The question is of course whether we can keep them. Losing Miller was probably happening regardless of how the season went. Let's not lose anyone else.

I guess if you are happy with just making a bowl game and beating IU, a decent class is OK.

Mildly impressed is generous. Most of our 3 star recruits are low-end. Only one has any offers from P-5 level schools other than Illinois (and Illinois is the only other offer from 2).

If we had a class full of 3 stars like Shuman, then I'd agree with you.

And yes, our class is small - but that also means you should be able to be selective. Considering we have commits that we're their only P-5 offer is not impressive.

Mildly impressed with the fact that this would be DH's best class. Considering Illinois just hammered us at home, I'm thinking I'm OK taking a few of their recruits.

Nate Johnson offered by The U yesterday too. Not looking great on holding onto that commitment.

Saw on Twitter he decommitted. Can't remember who who tweeted it, but had a feeling it was coming.

Edit: Barton Simmons tweeted it from the 247 site.

Be lucky if we get 1/2 the commits to stay and maybe lose a few that are on the team, if Hazell stays! Who wants to play for worse coach ever at Purdue. Gotta believe Hazell is gone, and the sooner its announced the better for everyone.

But what decent coach would want to coach Purdue?? Knowing that you will NEVER win the Big10?? I guess you can view the job as an "intership"?
