I know recruiting is heating up and getting commitments now doesn't mean much to a player or a school but if we were recruiting against the Mac schools right now we would be tied for 4th place with Central Michigan...Yes CMU at 73rd best class. Losing by a large margin to western michigan at 43rd, the great Toledo program 59 and i didn't have the heart to to check where we stand against NIU. I U is 55th. I know ranking don't mean much i know instate kids don't matter as said be some folks, but boys we are getting our brains beat in by mac teams and by IU getting 4 instate kids one who has ties to Purdue. That is how far our program has fallen, never ever did we compare ourselves to mac teams and we certainly had the upper hand on IU in recruiting. Glad to see the changes in AD now we need to change DH so we can once again gain some ground on the MAC

WMU has ten more commitments which gives more points. A little misleading ranking as 14 are two stars or lower as of today.

Hence, the product on the field and it's results.
Sadly, I have a terrible feeling that the Haze will return for another magnificent season in '17.
Why?
Money, winning is not that important at Purdue.

THis makes you feel better comparing us to WMU! Serious. Embarrassing to say they have out recruited us the past 3 years. If you want to compare us to a couple of programs in Power 5 look at us vs Colorado 29. They have been 2-10 and 4-9 the past two years with no wins against 1AA schools. Kansas which is coached by ???? has won two games in two years maybe, 0-12 last year is 60th. WE have a lot more things to worry about inside our program and it starts with recruiting and winning a few battles in your home state2,3 or 4 star kids

I think DH is a nice guy and presents himself well to the media. I also think until we have a competent head coach willing to take responsibility for the direction and progress of the FB program we will continue the current trend of poor records and terrible recruiting. There is just no incentive to come here if you have ANY real talent at all when there are a lot of other teams to play for that give you exposure, the joy of being part of a winning team and learning what a real organization and plan can produce.

I don't disagree it's bad. Just stating the current rankings are a little misleading.

Defensive coordinator that was under Joe tiller should have been the head coach and we wouldn't be in this mess.

Brock Spack ?
He's done well at Illinois State.
I'm sure that he would've done better than Hazell and maybe Hope.
We very well may get the chance to find out someday.

Sadly, we could NOT have hired Spack without a full-on fan revolt given the way his defenses failed to perform his last few seasons...

What do you know, we moved up 15 spots...without adding a single recruit! Maybe it's best to just let it play out a little and not get so worked up before the season even starts.

This is the best class DH2 has put together at this point in the game. Assuming he can keep them and get a couple other decent kids, we could be in the 8-10 range in the B1G. Sad as it seems, that would be a huge improvement. Wisky does that every year and still manages to be great.

Not a chance at 8-10 in big 10. Not going to out recruit any of Big 11. not better then maryland, rutgers, nebraska either. This is a dead last class in looking at where we are at. The only team we have chance in beating is IU and they are ahead of us right now.
that is why things must change and 4 years is plenty of time to start to turn the ship around and we haven't ...it's sinking!!!

western michigan has had a higher recruiting class 2 of the last 3 years

No it isn't. It's been like this every year and then it falls apart.

I agree with Nat 100,Give me a name of our last recruit we stole away from someone on signing day. It has to be at least 98% of the time we have lost those kind of recruits. I remember Tranquil flipped on us for ND after he was a lock for us because ND didn't offer then they came in late and took a pretty good player who played for ND as a frosh. Don't have relationships like we should which leads to all the problems we have had recruiting over his tenure.

If we could have kept all the kids that decommited our recruiting classes would have looked a lot better. Tranquil, Ward, Campbell, Powell, juco OT that went to MSU. There have been probably 10-15 total. Those are just some I remember.

We've rarely stolen a recruit on signing day, regardless of coach so that's a poor complaint of DH. I do agree we have to do a much better job of keeping commits. No question. And the best way to do that is win some games.

Lost a tackle to msu last year and a center to Stanford

You're probably right, but that also explains the real root of the problem with this football program -- too many of our fans are complete idiots about football, and our idiot AD listened to them!

The same idiots who would have opposed Spack, also wanted Tiller fired! And those same idiots -- and we're talking 10s of thousands of 'em -- ran Hope out of town on a rail, on the idiotic assumption that things could only get better after Hope, and without any consideration of the fact that Tiller and Hope both were victimized by a total lack of support from the AD, the Prez, and the BOT!

Only in the last couple years have PU fans -- the few remaining -- finally figured out that a HC is only one piece of the puzzle necessary to build a winning football program. You also need a supportive AD, Prez, and BOT, along with a reasonable fan base that's not dominated by idiots. The latter may be the biggest challenge at PU.

Sounds there are lots of idiots that are Purdue fans, and since I have been called an idiot by you in a past conversation on here , it looks like I am one of them. I guess we need someone to show us what to do.

I don't think I've called anyone on here an "idiot" since I was almost run off the board for defending Danny Hope, near the end of his tenure. And according to your profile, you didn't join the board until after that.

Regardless, why has it taken so long for PU fans to figure out that MB, the BOT, and former Prezs were the problem, not the coaches?! Seriously, how many on here were calling for Tiller's head when he was being denied the basic resources to compete in the B1G and MB was building aquatics centers? 10 or 12 years ago we were close to par with MSU -- then their administration invested in a coach and facilities, while we ran off the best coach we've had in 35 years, or more, and then started going "Dollar Store" cheap on everything related to football, from coaches' salaries to a lack of investment in facilities, because the university administration began imposing huge increases in internal overhead allocations on the Athletic Department. And the whole while, PU fans were doing what? Bitching about Danny Hope! Granted, not the greatest coach ... but only a symptom of the larger problem.

So now MB has been sent to pasture, and supposedly Mitch has figured out (albeit, too slowly) that football actually matters at Purdue -- not an easy trick for a Princeton man. So let's see if PU leadership can get it right now? That will matter for a lot more than any coaching changes.

You and I haven't always agreed but I think you're pretty much spot on here.

hopefully with the new AD things will get better, I agree with what you said, but then again you could water down calling people idiots, maybe they don't have access to info you have or know people like you do to find things out, you could post your ideas and let people know what you know, just an idea

I don't mean to offend anyone, personally. And I didn't say all our fans are idiots, nor did I single out anyone other than Burke and Cordova. I shared all these points years ago and was accused by many on this board, and elsewhere, of making excuses for Danny Hope and being satisfied with mediocrity. If I feel bad, it's for the loyal fans who pay attention, attend games, and deserve better. They, along with many of our past coaches, were betrayed by a PU leadership that milked dry this football program and its fan base, all for the sake of a few bucks in the short run.

I criticize Burke, as do most of us now, but we have to give him credit for standing up to Mitch and our BOT, even if it was long overdue, and getting the Athletic Department's onerous overhead charges reduced.

Honestly, our BOT deserves to be horse whipped for allowing Cordova to plunder our Athletic Department as she did, all with the expectation that JPC members could be suckered into giving even more to make up for it!

Now, we will all suffer through bad football for a very long time thanks to their myopic, penny-pinching, decisions, until the next Joe Tiller comes along and pulls a rabbit out of his hat against all the odds. But that may be a very long time, and there may be several more Fred Akers, Jim Collettos, Leon Burtnetts, and Danny Hopes and even more Darrell Hazzels in the mean time.

I'm just glad I got to attend one Rose Bowl. At least they can't take that away. Thanks, Joe! I just wish we could have seen what you would have done with PU football, with a little support and vision from PU's leadership!
