Going to be longer than usual, but have 9 wins to rank from good to great.

9. UConn. Not much to say about this one. Was more or less a glorified scrimmage

8. Illinois. Rare late defensive stop by Purdue in a game filled with long stretches of punting

7. Northwestern. Game was closer than final score indicated. Bonus point for playing at Wrigley. Hope they get the turf figured out before the next one

6. Indiana. Maybe should be higher as Purdue got the Bucket back, but the game was over by the middle of the second quarter

5. Nebraska. Always fun beating Nebraska as their fans live in the past and still think they are a blue blood program. Sounds familiar, maybe it’s the red and white color combo

4. Oregon State. Always nice to win the opener over a team that turned out better than thought. Lots of clutch plays late

3. Tennessee. Beating an SEC team while in a stadium that was probably 65% Orange was grand.

2. Iowa. Beating number 2 at their place is always great. Probably best defensive game of the year

1. Michigan State. Beating number 3 at our place is always great. Probably the best offensive game of the year.

I might reverse Tennessee and Iowa. The Iowa win was huge at the time--and it was a great defensive effort. But, in retrospect it's clear the Hawkeyes are no where near a top-5 team. For pure excitement, nothing in 2021 tops the last 5 minutes of the Music City Bowl.

Connecticut --- not much of a game, but it was Purdue's first road shut out in something like 40 years.

Illinois --- It was the first time in 25 years Purdue won a game without scoring at least 14 points. Of course, that also means Purdue scored fewer than 14 points.

I like the list. I’d reverse 2 and 3 since it is fresh off my mind plus winning in TN in virtually their “home” field.

But what will be remembered is we beat the #2 ranked team. So I feel it tops the Tennessee win.

And, it was completely unexpected coming off of the Minnesota loss before it...as well as it turned the tide of the season I feel, in that the Minnesota loss may have been the low point.

Purdue essentially committed to O'Connell during that two week window and it was clear coming out of that game that he was the guy...and, they made some strides during that two week window as well that benefited them over the rest of the year.

I think the Tennessee win is more impressive, but, I think given the circumstances, I would agree with your ranking with respect to the two games.

I agree, but would move UT to the top spot, not because they are a great team, but because I hope it carries momentum to 2022. As far as a complete game goes, @Iowa and MSU are pretty close.

Just for fun, I looked at the 2021 records for opponents of Purdue and IU to get a sense of S.O.S. in the 2022 season.

In 2021, Purdue opponents had a record of 70 & 79 - that's a winning percentage (WP) of 47%. IU opponents were 96 & 59 or 62%.

Looking at just the B10 - Purdue opponents were 55 & 59 for a WP of 48% while IU's were 70-46 for 60%.

Without having to play Ohio State, Michigan State, or Michigan, Purdue should have a pretty good record again this year (simply based on this totally irrelevant information).

Cute. You’re comparing the #1 SOS to the #5 SOS. Pretty moot argument when one of the teams wins 9 and one of the teams wins 2. IU wasn’t bad because of their schedule…they were just bad. Objectively the only good west team we didn’t play was Michigan. I’d have gladly traded PSU on our schedule for Minny or Wisconsin….

I agree with the premise our 2022 schedule is pretty light and with what we have coming back we should likely repeat our success of 2021 or be even better.

Distorted and misleading. Most of our opponents do not get to pad their schedules with the fighting Leos.

All of iu's opponents get to.

You morons can’t beat Minnesota or northwestern lol..

“You don’t play Michigan or Ohio state.” YOU need to check your records against the west lol.

1-6 in your last 7 vs Minnesota .. last win, 2007 LMAO

1-5 in your last 6 vs northwestern… you know that this means we do BETTER against Ohio state than you do against frigging northwestern lmao

1-8 in your last 9 against Iowa (moron.. and guess what, your mods aren’t here to babysit your eyes from reading this)

1-10 in your last 11 games against Wisconsin (divisions right? Not if you can’t EVER beat northwestern or Minnesota stooge)

4-4 in your last 8 against Illinois.. you know what they say.. you are who you go .500 against all other things equal. Lmao you got one! If your new schedule is

preseason
Preseason
Preseason
8 games against Illinois

you might be on to something lmao

1-1 in your two modern games against Nebraska

divisions matter when you beat anyone from either division not named Illinois

@IUHDog ”divisions”
Me: post about divisions that IU mods can’t protect his eyes from.. showing that they’re about as good against the west as a high school team would be

IUHdog: “hmmm wonder what’s going on with cricket in Pakistan”

If you would bother to comprehend my post, it had nothing to do with the 2021 season other than to use win-loss records to estimate a strength-of-schedule for 2022. It had absolutely no intent of dismissing the great 2021 record of Purdue or justifying the dismal record of IU.

And sorry for not jumping on your totally improper reply earlier. I'll try to be more prompt in the future.

And perhaps in your next reply, you can incorporate even more versions of the word morn like moronic, moronity, and moronism, and moronically.

At #6 the IU win is much too high/generous. Although it’s a so called rivalry for the Boilers, they were WINLESS in the B1G and AWFUL . . . They make their own case for running neck and neck with UCONN for the #9 position.

I have MSU and UT a tie for #1.
MSU because they were on a roll and had a Heisman candidate at RB. But, their pass defense was atrocious and Purdue exploited it.
UT because I love to piss on the SEC, in front of a home crowd, in a game they essentially chalked up as a W, and us being severely depleted in key positions. We had guys step up and play special and make special plays.
Putting the dagger in the UT fans hearts with the OT FG was just too satisfying.
