Chicks dig the long ball. My son sits at the 3 pt line every shoot around. Even after I remind him that he only hits 50% at the FT line. Stephon Curry’s influence on the basketball world cannot be denied.
Same reason I can kill the ball off the tee but can't hit the green from 50 yards out with a lob wedge.

I have no idea whether Brian Waddell will ever be a factor for Purdue or not but it amazes me that Purdue fans are writing off a kid after a redshirt year and major knee surgery. Unless you were down on this kid coming out of high school I'm not sure on what you'd be basing your opinion.
the grass is always greener for some.

Swanigan averaged 2.4 attempts a game as a sophomore when he was playing a lot of center. JaJuan Johnson averaged 1.5 attempts as a senior. Both of those guys had great post games so Painter didn’t have to allow them to take threes. I think Painter will allow it with the right player.
JJ had no real post game to speak of. Long arms so he could sometimes shoot his jumper over them in the paint. Kid was dying for a hook shot. Mostly scored on mid range jumpers and dunks.
Caleb had a lot of trouble down low his first season, couldn't jump much yet and had limited moves. He shot a few 3's after that, mostly because he was good enough overall to get away with it.
I think Painter will allow it with the player that can hit them above 1 out of 3.

This march he was at least 16 months post ACL. These days, most athletes are as recovered as they’re going to get by that point.

I really hope I’m wrong, but the competition for minutes wont get any easier than it was last year…maybe he can be a 4 with a dribble drive game?
operative word.

Haha......

Angus? What's happenin on the book nane there? Well Sam.....they've storted da toofest part of da carse......

Here's Lenny now......he's absolutely bombed anutter one, rate down the middle of the farrrway. I'd sigh he's gutttt no more denn nigh fifty yards to this fave-par.......could be an eagle in sate.

Wouldn't that be summm wizardry frumm the American, Sam......he'll have to hit his peetch hay over da sand trap to do it, though.......let's seee if he is upppp to eeeeet.

Oh dear.......my word......well folks, no doubt about eeeet, he's lied the sod over eeeet and buried eeeet eeeen da bunka......he might need a shovel or peetch-fark to get to the green now.

That would be a huge change in Painter's coaching philosophy/style to have 7 footers shooting 3s. I know he let Haarms take a few but it was never a weapon.
GRob III was never offered. Harris was offered late and it was reported that he had a bad visit to Purdue with his parents.

I WOULD TAKE BOTH GUARDS. HARRIS IS A SMOOTH 6’4” ETWANN MOORE LONG GUARD - AND CAN MAKE BASKETS FROM ALL THREE (POST UP, SLASHER AND THREE POINT LINE. AND TRAVIS PERRY IS A SUPERB PERIMETER SHOOTER. I THINK WE WILL BE IN A GREAT POSITION IF WE GET (CATCHINGS, BURGESS, BENTER, HARRIS AND PERRY). MYLES WILL ALLOW MATT TO RE-INVENT OUR OFFENSE. BOILER UP!

He operated more out of the high post where he didn’t have to fight for position, but he was very effective on turnarounds in either direction.

My dad was a scratch golfer and played under his age for 15 years. He went to a tourney in Hawaii for those that shot under their age. He honestly had ONE COMMENT when Mom asked him how his day went. It was ALWAYS how many 3-putt greens he had.
He did offer me some wisdom fairly often..."It's easy to get close, but golf isn't a game that rewards close."

So happy there are a few of you out there that grasp the importance of the glue guys.
Just curious.

Assuming the roster is set, where does he get minutes? If you think he's a better choice at the 4 than Gillis, TKR or Furst or a better option at the three than Morton, Colvin or Heide just say so.

Its a discussion board about sports, which basically allows fans to vent and speculate on what will happen in the future. If you believe Painter has trust in Waddell and will try and get him on the court, which of the two or three guys mentioned above do you believe will see little or no playing time next year?

I don't think Waddell likely plays next year. 13th guys are never going to get big minutes. I think the 12 and 13th scholarships on roster ultimately need to be developmental guys like Waddell or Berg. He has 3 more years left and could be a nice "glue guy" that defends, rebounds, and hits open shots if PT opens up in a couple years when he is an upperclassman.

There is one more spot left (2 if Zach leaves) to add another PG or SG. Waddell's spot is fine IMO.

Agree with this. Grady Eifert led the country in offensive efficiency and was a key part of the team that was a missed free throw away from the FF as a senior after not seeing the floor at all until his junior year, when he played limited minutes. Waddell has much better physical tools than Eifert.

I'm not sure why there's an issue with Waddell. The roster is made up of 13 scholarship players. Most teams don't regularly go any deeper than 10. CMP is closer to 8 than 10 typically. But you still need those guys at the end of the bench as practice/scout players, along with being able to trust them in injury or foul situations. You're not going to have a bona fide starter at that place on the bench. He would never stay. If he only plays in the non-conference games or in a pinch, what's the big deal with that?

Agree. Again, this in many ways will be his first healthy season with Purdue, assuming he’s fully recovered. If he plays a practice / emergency role this year and can compete for minutes his last two there’s nothing wrong with that. If he really is healthy he may blow away those expectations.

He'll get whatever minutes he earns in practice. What I or you think has nothing to do with it. The coaches reward effort, not who was recruited higher. I don't know or care if he plays 5 minutes or 20. I do know that guys like him are vitally important to the success of ANY program.

You also have guys are are talented enough to play D2 or non-P5 ball, but maybe they're happy getting a free ride to have Purdue on their resume, get some great perks playing in a high major program and are in it more for the experience than actual playing time?

I'm ready to eat crow!!!

No harm....I thought the same thing, just never posted it. Happy he is doing well. Hope it transfers to meaningful productive minutes during the season.....partly because that means non productive 3s are sitting on the bench where they belong and should have been last year....which means a better team.
