Wanted to share some notes from today’s portion of practice open to the media. It is important to note that this is only the second day of practice with a new staff, so a lot can change between now and September.
During brief 11 on 11 drills, Purdue’s “first team” offensive line was.
LT: Eric Miller
LG: Jalen Grant
C: Josh Kaltenberger
RG: Sione Finau
RT: Marcus Mbow
Of note, Mbow has been taking snaps at right tackle from what has been seen during the open media part of practice.
Last season’s starting tackle Mahamane Moussa was not on the field for the first or second team offensive line. He is in pads and going through drills, however.
On the flip side of the trenches, the defensive line has been thin this week, with several guys not appearing.
Working out with DL coach Brick Haley were Tristan Cox, Cole Brevard, Mo Omonode, Joe Anderson and Joe Strickland.
Arkansas transfer Isaiah Nichols, JP Deeter and Prince Boyd Jr were all absent. Sulaiman Kpaka was getting worked on over to the side, but nothing more than speculation as to what his situation was.
Freshmen Jamarrion Harkless also was not at practice, but Brick Haley shared earlier this month that he was dealing with an injury.
Strickland was thought to be an OLB, but has reportedly gotten up to 265 pounds. Something to watch throughout the spring.
After missing practice on Tuesday, before reappearing without pads, running back Kentrell Marks was back doing drills today.
The OLB group was also a bit thin. Only Nic Caraway, Khordae Sydnor, Will Heldt and Roman Pitre were working out today.
Over two days, I have not seen freshman DB Ethon Cole on the practice field.
Arkansas transfer DB Anthony Brown has been working out with the safeties.
Yanni Karlaftis was with the inside linebacker this evening.
Other notables players OUT of practice: (All coming off injuries/surgery)
Garrett Miller
Broc Thompson
Daniel Johnson (OL)
Scotty Humpich
Kydran Jenkins
Damarjhe Lewis
We will provide more updates should they come up:
