I've been reading about Thon Maker and his possible choices which include the likes of UK, Zona, IU, and one more. Discussions center around him coming in mid-term this coming season, playing one semester, and then going pro. Apparently he's no academic genius and this would be a possibility.

Is it possible for him to do this, and doesn't this absolutely embarrass the NCAA and one of their so-called rules aimed at getting at least a year of college. And would you want Purdue to take a player like this?

That is a fantastic question. If he is allowed to do that the NCAA absolutely should do something about it. They want to be taken seriously as an academic league first, well this refutes that greatly.

What is the point of one semester in school? Sure, the same can be said about 1 full year, but why try to come blend with a team for a few months of college ball. My guess is class work after the season would be skipped anyway. Why not just work on hard for the year and get yourself ready for the NBA?

Well if Purdue can get a grad school player eligible in October I don't see why this could be any worse

Maker's may be the best illustration of why the one and done rule is just absurd. I'm sure he and his handlers are looking for the best "deal" for the minimal time has to be called a college student in order to jump to the NBA asap. I hope it all works out in the end for Maker but a lot of people appear to have their hands in his pocket.

Perhaps, I won't argue that I just found it extremely suspect that a player enrolls into a school midway through a semester yet still has eligibility for that semester. I don't recall another case but I could be mistaken.

Who's to say that doesn't create a trend. It's foreseeable that elite freshman start school in October and declare for draft in early April and stop attending class at that point. That'd a quality "student athlete"

The nice thing about thon maker not being eligible until 2nd semester is It gives clappy the clown until December to decide who to Crean to make room for him.

A Christmas Creaning, if you will.
