I was watching BTN last night and Weinstadt was talking about the Purdue situation. They brought up that firing the coordinators may not have been Hazell's decision, and Weinstadt says, "if that's the case, I'd leave".

Does anyone know the details of what happens if Hazell just left? Am I just confused or isn't he penalized for doing so (beyond not pulling in the $2M annual salary) if it's not a mutual agreement where the buyout may be voided?

Weinstadt's full of crap. If he's no more talented than DH he's gonna keep on collecting the checks until somebody runs him off.

If he resigns, he isnt due the buyout, but he must pay the balance of the loan he was provided to pay for his KSU buyout

Hazell isn't going to quit. Why would he? He makes 2.2 million a year and doesn't even have to coach well.

Rule #1 in sports analysis: If it ain't your money you're walking away from, talk tough.

Hazell is under contract to Purdue. He is due the agreed upon sum for his emplyment. If he quits, he leaves of his own accord and is not due salary, and there may be give-backs (as evidently there are) in his contract.

If he quits and does not take a coaching job, he is likely to be left alone by Purdue. If he quits and takes a coaching job (very unlikely given the present) then his new employer would likely have some problems from Purdue. Purdue would likely have a tort claim for interference, etc.

Having said that, I do nto see him quitting as where would he go?

Thanks everyone. As I was watching, all I could think was, this guy's an idiot. With 6 wins in 3 years, you're going to walk away from a $2M job? Who else is knocking on your door?

when he is done here and the way osu loses coaches from time to time. I'm sure Pope Urban will have a spot for him.
