Question for shot blocking bigs

I realize it must be monstrously fun to block shots into the stands, but sometimes a shot is such a poor decision that the shot blocker is in a position to just … catch the ball. But generally these get swatted like the rest… Since some blocked shots end back up in the hands of the opponent, why don’t you see more opportunistic shot catches (or maybe tip up & then quickly catch)?

Not a big myself so I am sure there’s something I’m just not understanding here.

I think you do what you can to just block the shot. Then, leave it up to your team to get the loose ball. With the shot clock now a factor, blocking a shot does not reset the shot clock.
 
Blocking a shot usually a combination of all out effort, leap and stretch to maximum. Big, broad muscular bursts of energy. Fine motor skills are not in play at that moment very often.
