Queen

Queen's seat has to be getting hot in Gloomington
Here's my thoughts for what it's worth regarding Two Tone Tommy (I posted the same in another thread):

I can't stand the guy, just as I couldn't stand Sampson or Davis as IU's coach. I said each time one was hired that they were not the right coach, that IU would become just another program under all of them.

Surprise, but I'm going to have to disagree that his seat will be on fire. I don't even believe it's warm at this point. IMO, here's what has to happen for Fred to even consider it:
  • A new scandal of drugs, drinking, or some other act that degrades the school.
  • A total melt down where the team has a horrible record
  • Crean totally losing it as Woody did at OSU.
  • The prominent alumni get tired of the Crean Clown Show and starts pulling donations
  • Along with that, games on TV where Ass Hall is half full, which means no beer, no cokes, no popcorn, no trinkets/shirts sold on game night.
Here's the reason I think he keeps his job:
  • He has won two league titles in the last four years.
  • He's made the Sweet 16 a couple of times
  • He's brought a ton of talent to IU this year and more is coming in '17.
  • His kids, for the most part, graduate
  • Butts in seats is what Fred Glass loves. The school is making money from the program
  • National TV....the best recruiting tool to get students to IU.
  • Fred doesn't listen to the fan base, especially a fanbase on Peegs or here. And he shouldn't.
And, Steve Alford has told those he knows, he will not coach at IU, Bennett will not come to IU, and Brad isn't leaving the Celtics for IU. So you may be stuck with the Clapping Fool for a few more years. And honestly, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Good points. Crean's hire was the result of a long search where top candidates didn't want the job. Would those top candidates now be interested? Has anyone else risen to "elite" level, by IU's standards, and would they take the job?

Dan Dakich, who we know is pretty plugged in, has said that IU fans would be shocked to know the candidates that would be interested in that job. He said some of them have already won National Championships. Not to mention that IU has a lot of money that they can throw at a coach now. They could have bought out Crean, but Glass gave him another chance.

Dakich throws a lot of shit against the wall. Some if it sticks but quite a bit is painfully wrong.

When you can pay 5 or 6 million a year for a coach, you'll have plenty of options. IU has a pedigree that most schools don't offer. As bad as Crean is, he's won 2 BTC. I actually think Bill Self could do more at Indiana than he has at Kansas. But convincing him of that is laughable.

these are the only active coaches with a national title iirc:
krzyzewski
r. williams
izzo
pitino
boeheim
calipari
self
wright
fisher
ollie
t. smith

so maybe ollie, or fisher/smith before they retire. i suppose thats plausible.
self was making 4.9M already last year
possibly wright for $, although i imagine nova has already worked on restructuring any of his contract(?)

Pedigee! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! So does that mean that they offer free heartworm pills to their students and alumni? I am sure that most schools don't offer that!

I would love to see just a name or two.

I heard the same thing before IU settled for Sampson and then again before they settled for Crean.

Lol. Yeah, they were lining up during the last 2 hires at IU. Hot air Dakich knows how to pull ratings.

Sampson was hired because he was friends with the President, Adam Herbert. At this point guys, I'd take Todd Lickliter just to get rid of Crean.

Despite lack of success, IU will be more attractive. More money. More facilities. Largest recruiting budget in the country. Crean is like an 8 year old trying to drive a Cadillac.

IU had a pedigree. It left after Knight's speech in Dunn Woods and most likely won't be coming back for a long time if ever. As for Self, he'd never leave Kansas

Never said he would. I just think he'd do more at IU. IU is a good coach away from being a top program again. They have everything else that they need. What don't they have? They have a great home environment. Great practice and training facilities. Great recruiting base. Huge recruiting budget. Ability to pay a top 5 salary. Large fanbase. Basketball history and tradition. They have a crappy coach. That's their only issue.

I think you are ignoring the factors that exist now that didn't exist in the "glory days". Just because you see short shorts, that doesn't mean the times haven't changed.

Well, how about they have players who don't play as a team, who can't play a lick of defense. My question is will Crean, after his idiotic display at the end of today's game be the next Woody Hayes?

The "players" that are there, are there, because Crean recruited them and he develops them. Like I said, that is the issue with IUBB. The coach.
