Purdue vs. Ole Miss: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Great game but the short leash on the bench scares me....Why didn't Cox play? Burgess?
Cox I don't know but I think folks are jumping the gun on Burgess. He probably should have taken a RS year although obviously it's understandable why not given the injury and the fact that Berg is limited.

Painter has said consistently that the issue with Burgess is conditioning and he clearly isn't ready to go for long stretches yet in what kind of was a faster game it seemed. I also agree he should have taken a RS year unless he doesn't intend to stay at Purdue more than a couple years then it really doesn't matter I guess.

Ooooo he’s gone from second team all B1G to AA?!

Lol. Yes, I thought to jump to 1St team all B10 from nothing last year was a monster jump. Still might be? But it's looking more & more likely. I will concede that possibility.

But I was the first person on here to say he would be as high as 2nd team All B10 this year as I said it right after the season last year.

While he won't be an All American.....last night those were definitely All American numbers. He's not going to get that consistently enough to be a AA.

Braden was too out of control down the stretch. Seriously, what happened to his decision making.
Loyer: just shoot the damn ball! That backwards pass was so stupid.
And why didn't we/Cam/CMP guard the kid on the inbounds pass at the end? At least be near him to be a tad more uncomfortable on final shot, vs WIDE OPEN....
I agree but in fairness it’s a 55 footer, not going to make many of those.

TKR IS THAT GUY…8th best player in the nation according to KenPom. Here’s how his stats rank vs the other bigs in B1G play so far and I’d wager that he has gone against the toughest non conf so far:

Take away his three point shooting struggles and Gicarri had a very good tournament. He plays with great effort. I can see why he is solidly in the rotation. I think that the shooting will improve as well once he gets past the freshman nerves because he’s taking good shots.

I like that at least, he was willing to pull the trigger.....when he starts knocking 'em down at a better clip, going to put more opposition in bigger dilemmas. He's also learning on the fly on defense, but Painter definitely put him out there a couple of times to try and slow down Ole Miss/Didn't Miss wings in the 2nd half.

Thought I heard one of those Fizzbin stats for the Big Ten conference players, that he was the only player with something like at least 18 points/6 rebounds/2.5 assists/60% shooting. Not surprising to Painter, but he's definitely going to warrant more attention, so teams can't quite load up on Smith/Loyer without giving up something in the paint. In addition, he's not as flashy as Big Cat with passing, but he is very adept and is solid with splitting the double teams too. A couple of concerns would be staying out of early foul trouble and the FT's. When he keeps his form consistent, he's solid, but that sometimes wavers.

Also…that was HIS FIRST double double of his career. That’s crazy haha.
