Purdue gets a chance at payback against Illinois. Who do you think wins and by how much?

Third game in three days for the Illini, but we are talking about Purdue playing in BLF. This game could go either way tomorrow.

Illinois will be tired as the game goes on. I say keep going inside to the bigs and wear Illinois down. Purdue wins 79-69

Wasnt it a few years back Purdue had a double by and lost to a team that was playing their 3rd game. I say Ill shoots light out against a cold Purdue team....oh wait that nightmare already happened....Purdue continued strong play and wins 85-71

Trying to blame BLF for Purdue's lack of success there in recent years is nonsense to me. The venue has nothing to do with those losses. Purdue even won the B10 tournament there in '09. So please, let's dispel that notion.

As for the game tomorrow, Purdue is the more talented team and is the more rested team. Of course, "it could go either way", but Purdue has probably about an 80% chance of winning, so they should win.

I'll say:

Purdue 81
Illinois 67

Maybe UI is peaking at the right time? Too bad Purdue is too. Our guys seem to have gotten things dialed in finally. I guess Purdue wins handily... 87 - 73.

Purdue needs to flipping show up at the start to play. The longer you let Illinois hang around, the tiredness doesn't become an issue.

You can't have mentality of "oh we'll pull ahead late" because we are deeper and fresher. You aren't going to win anything in tournament time with that mentality.

Tiredness is over-rated in this game. They're young, they train, and train. Unless it goes three overtimes, fatigue will not be a factor. After all, it's been almost a week since they played. I worry about Purdue coming out sloppy and shooting way too many three's but they should win by a few.

I have Purdue winning this game by 10 points.....

Something like 78 to 68............

AJH, Biggie, Mathias and Hill with the big games.....

Hitting our good outside shots, rebounding on both ends and hitting our free throws win it for us.

Boiler Up!

Definitely not overrated. It isn't playing basketball but the stress of playing competitive.

Boilers 81-66.
Hopefully we build a big lead and Painter can do a lot of subbing trying to keep guys fresh. Although Purdue has let plenty of big leads slip away this year, so maybe that's a poor strategy.

What I really liked late in the Wisky game was the lineup of Biggie, VE, RD, DM and PJ.
Shooters, a banger, a stretch 4, a great passer and a great defender.

Hopefully Purdue learned something from our first meeting in January where Illinois lit us up from the 3 pt arc. In their first 2 BTT games, they are living by the 3 pointer. We better make it difficult for them to shoot the 3 ball. If we play tough nosed defense, we win 75-63. If we let them shoot the 3 ball, things could get real interesting - and not in a good way.

Side note: All 4 dogs covered yesterday: Nebraska (+6), Illinois (+10.5), Penn State (+6), Northwestern (+2.5). Two of them won outright. Coincidentally (or not) the 2 who won outright were the winners from the previous day. Today all 4 dogs won yesterday but 2 of them are playing a third day in a row. Appears to bode well for UM and OSU.. maybe diminishing returns for Ill and Neb.

Illinois ranks at the bottom of the conference in scoring defense...let's pound these guys and put up 90 or so.

Our biggest problem was defense and turnovers in our first meeting. Illinois shot 55% and we had 16 turnovers. Not gonna win with those stats.

You're right...their offense is pretty good. Kendrick and Nunn killed us in the first meeting so I think that provides plenty of incentive for guys to lock down on those two.

I'm pretty confident that Purdue won't let that happen again. I think that Purdue wins by double digits.

Purdue had no answer for Hill and Nunn, and as Ilbodel has stated, TO's killed Purdue like in other losses. It was still a game for the taking at the beginning of the second half. Illinois ended up shooting better than 50% (including better than 50% from 3......and went 23-28 from the FT line). It also didn't help that Davis and Edwards had some foul trouble.

Illinois was pretty much dictating the play.....that needs to change. Cut down the TO's and at least make someone else make some plays, and I think the Boilers should be able to move on.

I expect it to be a competitive game.

Ya, I noticed that, too.

The one significant advantage that the current B1G tournament format affords to capable double-digit seeded teams (definitely Nebraska, maybe Illinois) is that they first face another bottom feeder in the rat tail and then a mid-level team in the 2nd round before having to square off against one of the conference heavy weights in the quarters.

Illinois has been playing for two days. They're at full speed and in a rhythm.

I do worry about Purdue taking some time to settle into its first game of the tournament. Illinois might run into fatigue issues down the stretch, but they should be well positioned for a strong start.

As I read through this thread I began to wonder if any of you have actually watched Purdue before this season. I know most of you have, of course, but you seem to be forgetting what the front of our jerseys say. This game is a recipe of disaster for Purdue. Purdue hasn't played in a week and was red hot before they stopped playing. Illinois has won two games in two days and has the confidence of an early season win over Purdue. Purdue always plays terrible in Indy. Purdue always plays terrible in post season tournaments. We have all seen this story before. My guess is Purdue comes out terrible in the first five minutes then plays their way back into it, only to choke in the final five minutes. I want to believe this team is different but they have had plenty of chances throughout the season to prove me wrong only to fall flat on their faces. I'm preparing for the worst and I suggest you do to.

Crazy how many people on here were being cautious about today and thought an 11 point spread was "generous". We played a team that won 5 B10 games all year and was playing their 3rd game in 3 days.

If that's a reason to be cautious, I can't wait to hear what people have to say when we play Michigan, MSU, and the NCAA tournament games.
