Maryland took the first match 22-25, then Purdue won the 2nd set easily 25-15. But the 3rd and 4th sets were barn-burners that Purdue won 25-22 and 30-28. The 4th set went back and forth with both teams having set points but unable to get the point needed to win until Purdue finally did on a Colvin service ace that just dribbled over the net and fell on the Maryland side.

The game was all about the defense as the team’s hitting %’s were 0.079 for Purdue and 0.067 for Maryland. Raven Colvin set a Purdue record for a 4 set match with 16 blocks and added 8 kills along with 4 service aces including the match-winning ace. Per Dave Shondell Ava Torrence also had an excellent game and Grace Balensiefer was a force when we needed her, playing the entire game for injured Megan Renner. It was the first full game Grace has played this year. Eva Hudson had 17 kills but also 10 errors. Schermerhorn had 24 digs.

This was a really important game for NCAA seeding and just maybe Purdue can carry their modest winning streak to Happy Valley and beat Penn State this Friday. At any rate, this win should make their Thanksgivng meal much more enjoyable.

Hated the camera angle at Maryland. Made the game seem slow and boring.

Purduesports article said that Colvin was involved in all 16 team blocks. Means Clayton was involved in none. Really odd.

Absolutely agree. Big Ten+ needs more than one camera - that was amateurish.

I did think the student announcers were pretty good and, for the most part, unbiased. (Except for when they said the second half of Purdue’s season had been “a disaster”. That would have Dave sputtering!) Hahaha
