Remember, I'm not a football coach, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. Also this is from field level, with 100 players and 100 support staff on the field, so it’s difficult to see at times. I’ll concentrate on defense for Friday.

Many players are in street clothes or jerseys and were not participating. Broc is walking well after 2 surgeries, and is a really nice kid. Chatted a couple of minutes both days. A fan was there with impressive 8 ½ by 11 glossies of him, and he autographed and talked to him. Said his brother is coming along fine. Eric Miller and Milton Wright were both in jerseys. Milton looks tall!

Looks to me like QB shakes out this way, Aidan, Alaimo, Burton and Allen. Alaimo moved up a spot, based on his performance on Monday. Aidan is accurate and strong. Alaimo and Allen are strong. Burton has wheels (but you already knew that). Allen looked a bit confused at times, and play was stopped in order to sort things out. He is the least accurate, but has a strong arm. Without shoulder pads, you can see that he will need to put on some muscle to catch up with the other guys. In other words, he looks quite thin. He overthrew several passes, one by about 15 yards.

King, Sampson (showed up on Wednesday), then Mockobee. Several others ran with the 2’s and 3’s. Running ability is hard to evaluate, cause they are not tackling and it’s just a mass of humanity when there is a run play. Sampson is a taller and leaner RB than King.

Steptoe to me looks pretty fast with good hands. Sowinsky caught a couple nice ones, one in heavy traffic. Terrell looks impressive and caught several, one beautiful diving at the sideline. Deion Burks caught a 40 yard deep one and several other nice catches. Ben Van Nord and Tyrone Tracy had many receptions (Tracy #3 will NOT be confused with David!). Sullivan hauled in a couple of deep ones!

Payne looks very big compared to the other tight ends, but maybe that’s just me (remembering him rumbling down the field in the bowl). Bilodeau and Miller are very strong and big with good hands. I think the sleeper is Pifieri. I always cheer for someone who gives up the ‘preferred position’ to help the team. He’s gained half of the weight that Viktor Beach has lost (VB has lost about 80 pounds and looks svelte!) Paul looks fast on the field.

OL looks like this:

1’s

RT 79 Bycznski

RG 75 Holstege

C 53 Hartwig

LG 64 Mousse

LT 63 Mbow

2’s
RT 74 Bycznski

RG 71 Fox

C 54 Kaltenberger

LG 62 Kuhns

LT 61 Rpberts

From what I could tell, only a couple of recruits in the building. There are less than 100 spectators, but full complement of local press. I think Burton’s parents were there (at the break, Austin came over and gave them each a sweaty hug). Practices have been short with not a great deal of variety. No kicking of any kind in either practice. I miss JaMarcus Shepherd! He looked like he was always having fun and was quite the personality on the field.

Thanks DL! everybody here owes you a beer! :)

Yes, it's great to get some independent information to get a feeling on how the team is doing. The snippets about family are nice too.

Thanks Dandelion, always a great write up and much appreciated!

I have seen a couple of things on Tracy from others. He sounds like he really will be able to help us with Bell gone, and of all things he has the same number now. I guess I am surprised that Iowa did not use him more, because he sounds like the real deal.

I think the kickers were outside on Wednesday while I was there. The gates were open and that's where I went before realizing the rest of the team was indoors.

Is Piferi a sleeper if he is ahead of Bilodeau and scored a TD in the bucket game?

Happy to see Piferi perform well at T.E. I agree, may not be a sleeper at all and if he can keep getting stronger and remain fast, his final two years has a lot of upside. "Sleeper" is likely used since he came out of nowhere to performing and scoring. A quick look at his career stats of 12.2 yards/catch may show his real potential is just ahead of him at Purdue.
BTW, saw a video of him getting 19 reps of 225 lbs bench and if correct, that is close to NFL combine ready.
