Being at the Rivals Three-Stripe Camp last Sunday at East St. Louis got me thinking about Purdue's recruiting efforts in this area the last 25 years. It has been sporadic ... and sparse. It's closer to West Lafayette than many may think--roughly 300 miles/5-hour drive.

It's good to see Purdue taking a deep dive into the St. Louis area again under Jeff Brohm. RB coach Chris Barclay hits the area hard. The program had basically abandoned the area under Danny Hope and Darrell Hazell. Joe Tiller would come to the area and got a few players. Same for Jim Colletto. Purdue is in on a lot of St. Louis-area players for the Classes of 2020 and 2021. Here are a few of the better players Purdue has gotten from the area in the last 25 years:

LB Joe Odom, Civic Memorial (Illinois)
RB Arlee Conners, Lindbergh High
DB Ikee Dozier, Lindbergh High
S Pat Johnson, Potosi High
OT David Cohen, Lafayette High

(Conners and Dozier were brothers)
(Odom and Johnson played in the NFL)

In Joe Tiller's first class, he inked two QBs: Jim Mitchell of Hazelwood Central and some guy named Drew Brees.

If you go back further, Purdue got guys like:
DE Don Baldwin, St. Charles West
RB/DB Bobby Williams, Sumner (he was head coach of Michigan State)

Sure I have missed some guys. Anyway, hope you have some perspective. ....
