Contact Fleck agent and get a yes or no and if it`s a I`m not sure then get on the plane and fly to W.Kentucky and hire Jeff Brohm. With that hire you will get all the Brohm brothers. I think Fleck is looking for bigger and better or will stay another year at Western to see what pops up next year.

We won't publicly know til Saturday where we stand with Fleck. I'm sure the AD already knows and there would be action moving in a different direction if he weren't very much in play.

It's stupid to go hire somebody else when your #1 choice is interested and willing to talk in a few days.

There aren't a ton of quality jobs open this time around and we have the luxury of waiting and finding the right guy. Why freak out and make a move just to appease your 10 worried fans?

Same people who thought we had to fire Hazell mid-season to get a leg up on the coaching search and didn't understand that we were going to have to wait on some of these coaches regardless of what we did. They didn't understand it then and they don't understand it now. Probably never will.

Are we in danger of losing Brohm this week if we wait on Fleck?
IMO.. no. Oregon won't be calling Brohm. Baylor and Houston are the only competition at this point, and they seem to be busy themselves flirting around with bigger fish.
If Fleck is your #1 and Brohm is your #2.. You call up Brohm's agent and say Purdue is interested but won't be making a decision for another week, maybe give an approximate salary range. There is NO WAY he doesn't wait a week if he has any interest.

Why are we only looking at coaches from Small Schools. Doesn't WKY sound a lot like EKY, Western Michigan, and wherever Hazel came from. I think this is a hire that we cannot make a mistake on. I would have to think that many Coordinators from major schools would jump on a re-build at Purdue.

Coordinators with no head coaching experience are just as risky, if not moreso.

Another baseless post without evidence. Well done.

Which part. He was correct when he said we were going to have to wait and see.

"...didn't understand that we were going to have to wait on some of these coaches regardless of what we did...."

Still waiting on evidence to support this claim.

The evidence is on this board. Don't blame me because you're too lazy to go back and find it.

Not sure what evidence you want. The only candidates available midseason were Briles and Miles. Season ends for 2 prime candidate next weekend.

I'm waiting on slappy to provide evidence supporting his claim that some expected an immediate, mid-season hire.

Most people expected us to hire somebody before the weekend was over...which was silly.

2 jobs have filled, one with the guy already there and 1 that was 1a as far as elite open jobs this year.

As far as elite jobs, barring any surprises they are full. Now it's the rest of the teams fighting over a pretty deep class of coaches looking to make a jump up.

When was the last time Purdue was in the drivers seat in a coaching search? Since we are in a good spot, why rush it? Any other year we'd potentially hire Spack. This year, we can have our choice of any one of 4-5 guys that are a good fit and immediate upgrade.

I agree. Why not gauge the interest of a Bobo from CSU or other coaches who would be a step up the ladder move?

If I may chime in.. There were threads even back in early September calling for DH2's firing after two games (which went exactly how most predicted). Some thought it would send a "message". A few thought we might be able to jump on Briles right away.

Here is my exact quote from 9/12 in a thread titled "Mid-year firing?":
Firing him mid season accomplishes nothing unless you've got the new coach lined up and ready to come in. And no viable candidate is leaving his current team mid season. This was a lost season before it ever started due to the timing of the AD transition.

It did feel good when he was let go and I kind of went from being semi-against the timing to semi-for it. But in hindsight I don't think we really accomplished much other than garnering a small amount of attention. We'd likely be in the exact same spot right now if Hazell was fired after the bucket game. So, essentially, anyone who took an extreme position on either side was equally wrong. And the fighting and name calling is just plain annoying.
