Purdue lands transfer OL

So now we are starting to see an increase in players portalling in December, finding a new home, in theory going to school for a semester and participating in spring ball, then going right back out the door after spring ball is done and they see where they are on the depth chart. In Browne's case, likely going back to whence he came.

College sports is not what it used to be. Get used to it I guess.

It’s kind of hard to build a team when players leave in December and then again in April. I can see from a player’s perspective if you are not going to start, you may want to look around.

But it appears everyone wants to be a starter and nobody wants to be the guy that comes off the bench and works hard and eventually becomes a starter.

The basic mentality today is if I ain’t startin’, I’m departin’.

And it’s really not about the NIL. It’s about starting. With a few exceptions, a regular lineman isn’t going to receive more money playing for Northwestern or Iowa st or Washington or Louisville than playing at Purdue. I believe athletes are starting to find out the money they thought was there is just not as much as they were being told.

Not true at all. NIL is a huge factor, quite possibly the largest factor. Purdue has 5 QBs on their team and only the guy on the bottom of the depth chart left. We had 7 RBs including guys that transferred in that knew they would have to play behind Mockobee. None are leaving. The headliner of this thread is not plugged in as a starter but I suspect he came here because Purdue is giving him more money than Tulane was. He is going from starter to backup. Same with the DT from Arkansas state, the WR, and the Memphis DB we just got.

If what you are saying is true, 2 deep backups would be transferring to schools like ball state, indiana state, Evansville and not the other way around. The guys that are going to mac schools are not on the 2-deeps and got “the talk.”

What I’m saying is they are coming to Purdue because they see a chance to start. The offensive lineman from auburn could have made more nil money staying at auburn. But he can start at guard at Purdue. It’s the same with qb Browne. Did Purdue offer brown e more nil money than UNC? Sometimes for some players it’s not always about the money . I realize you will never believe me.

You are stating absolutes based on assumptions. Do you know auburn offered their backup RG more money than Purdue offered who desperately needed a starting IOL and who has the same revenue sharing pot as Auburn? Do you think UNC guaranteed Browne the 7% of their entire team revenue bucket after they basically bumped him to 3rd on the depth chart. This is free agency. I fully expect players will pursue teams that give them chances to start when $$ is equal. We now have 8 transfers in the spring, I believe 6 were starters with their current teams whose teams are not expected to have full revenue sharing, and are not expected to start here. So it is 100% crystal clear your statement is wrong with 6 of 8. The other two you are making assumptions, and it’s possible it could be $, starting, or both could be major factors.
