Better thread title, BoilerSmac? The recruits should start ROLLING in now. Just like when the Saints won the super bowl.
Today's discussion is really an observation I've made on the last two threads I've started. They're both accessible, if you're smart enough to use thread view. (or you can be an idiot like Stout1...TIC....except to Stout1, totally serious if it's him reading this) I'm telling you this to allow you to go back and fact check me, if you think I'm wrong about what I'm going to say.
Thread 1. Matt Painter Discussion - mainly about our concerns about Purdue basketball. We won't call it complaining, but we all voiced our concerns. I would say the concerned outweighed the non-concerned as it relates to Purdue Basketball's recent past and near future. 2862 thread views as I write this. 134 posts total
Thread 2. Purdue is Lame Discussion - mainly about a comment made on Monday that Purdue is lame. In this thread, I asked what you would do to improve the overall, perceived lameness of Purdue or Purdue Sports. 1773 thread views as I write this. 117 posts total. (most of which were Stout1 making bad jokes and qazplm and BigE measuring each others manhood against each other)
Which leads me to believe a hypothesis that I've long held about Purdue fans. MOST Purdue fans are lame, and just want to complain about EVERYTHING and anything, but have no REAL solutions to the problems. Or their solutions are SO out there (we should hire Nick Saban, Tomlin, etc...) that it's a no win situation.
Random observation. I went to the Illinois game (senior night) this year. My son and I sat up pretty high (row 20), and about four minutes left in the game, people start filing out of the arena. On a Saturday evening, senior night. After the game, less than half of the stadium stuck around for senior night festivities. THIS is Purdue. Many of them were students, many of them were family members.
I know that people aren't willing to accept this, but if you want to win more games in football, enough to take us to a few Rose Bowls or NYD bowls, then we need better recruits. If you want better recruits, then we need a better atmosphere at football games, and if you want a better atmosphere at football games, we need more butts in seats. I don't care how that happens, but NO difference maker football player is going to attend a Purdue football game, look around and say "hey, I want to go here". I know the product on the field can be somewhat poor, but WE are PART of the problem. I'm part of the problem. I can't attend many games, BUT I also don't complain about purdue football. Check that, I complain about bad plays, or dumb coaching decisions (in my eyes), but I don't complain that we're not winning, or call for the coaches head.
In basketball, if you want to get big time commitments, we need Mackey to be packed every game. The atmosphere is second to none when we're on. That is OUR responsibility. I know you think that it is the team's responsibility to have a good product for you to come and see, but what does it take to get a good product? Good recruits.
In short, if you're not going to be part of the solution, I think you forfeit the right to complain. And there are ALOT of complainers associated with our great university. Perhaps it is that way in all universities, but I don't observe them.
I'll go ahead and predict that the complainers will get angry about this and flame away, complainers don't like being called complainers. The people that see things for what they are, will agree. As a fanbase, we suffer from alot of apathy.
I know it will be tough on this one, but as I asked before, let's keep it civil. I'm not attacking you, as my comment isn't about Knuckleheads, it is about the Purdue fanbase as a whole. We're a small percentage.
