Iowa clinches the B1G West with a win over Purdue on Saturday.

Purdue (2-8, 1-5 B1G West) heads to Iowa for the 86th meeting between the schools on Saturday, with an 11 a.m. CST kickoff on ESPN 2. Purdue is 3-11 against a ranked Iowa team in program history. Purdue last beat a ranked Iowa team in 2003, when the No. 16 Boilermakers defeated the No. 10 Hawkeyes 27-14 in West Lafayette.

Of course, Purdue isn't a Top 20 team right now, and Iowa is, as the Battle of Black & Gold will be played on Saturday in Iowa City.

Iowa junior QB #16 C.J. Beathard in the Hawkeyes 40-35 win against Minnesota.

Iowa QB C.J. Beathard became the first Iowa quarterback to win his first career start in a road game since Jason Manson in 2006, in last year's 24-10 Hawkeye win @ Purdue. Beathard's start snapped a streak of 17 consecutive starts by QB Jake Rudock in 2014. Beathard completed 17-of-37 passes for 245 yards passing and one touchdown. He also rushed eight times for 29 yards.

Now the starter in 2015, Beathard has won his first 11 games as a starter for the Iowa Hawkeyes, dating back to last year's start at Purdue. In Iowa’s last 11 games, including the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl, Beathard’s fourth quarter numbers include 35-of-49 passing for 500 yards and four touchdowns, and 17 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Beathard did not play in the fourth quarter against North Texas.

Iowa senior DE #34 Nate Meier against Minnesota freshman RB #27 Shannon
Brooks, who was recognized as the B1G Freshman of the Week, this week.

Beathard and the Hawkeyes’ rush defense have dominated the fourth quarter in 2015. Iowa’s rush defense, the No. 3 defense in the conference, has yielded 191 total rushing yards in the fourth quarter this season (19.1 yards per game).

Beathard is 28-of-42 passing for 405 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed 15 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter this season. He has engineered game-winning drives in the fourth quarter two times this season (Iowa State and Pitt). He was 4-of-4 for 46 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State, and he rushed for 27 yards on three carries to set up K Marshall Koehn’s 57-yard game winning field goal against Pitt.

game captains, C #63 Austin Blythe, FS #27 Jordan Lomax, QB #16 C.J. Beathard
and DE Drew Ott, who was lost to a season ending injury vs. Illinois.

Iowa's Senior Day will see 21 players wrap up their home career at Iowa. Senior members of the Iowa football program include C Austin Blythe, RB Jordan Canzeri, DT Darian Cooper (who has missed his senior season due to injury), FB Adam Cox, CB Sean Draper, TE Jake Duzey, WLB Cole Fisher, WR Jacob Hillyer, P Dillon Kidd, PK Marshall Koehn, TE Henry Krieger Coble, FS Jordan Lomax, DE Nate Meier, DEDrew Ott (season ending injury vs. Illinois), LB Travis Perry, FB Macon Plewa, C/G Eric Simmons, WR Tevaun Smith, DE Melvin Spears, WRAndrew Stone, and RG Jordan Walsh.

Purdue redshirt freshman QB #11 David Blough completed 28 of 43 pass attempts
for 274 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He added 82 yards
rushing on 10 carries, including a 56-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for the
Boilermakers in the first quarter of the 55-45 win over Nebraska.

Purdue redshirt freshman QB David Blough is scheduled to make his eight straight start, which will give him the most consecutive starts by a Purdue quarterback in the same season since Caleb TerBush started 13 games in 2011.

Purdue scored a touchdown on its first offensive play from scrimmage last week - a 68-yard touchdown pass from QB Blough to junior WR Domonique Young. It is the longest play Northwestern has allowed all season. Purdue lost at Northwestern 21-14 last Saturday, while Iowa won at Northwestern 40-10 earlier in Big Ten play.

The caption on the home page said "Purdue looking forward to chance in Iowa city". Are they freaking kidding. They are going to get smoked. I just don't see any chance of an upset.

Northwestern beats us and drops 2 spots in the latest CFP poll. Iowa is going to need to put the pedal to the floor to maintain their #5 ranking. Look for them to run up the score and not let up! 56-3 Iowa.

Even though Ferentz is a pretty likable guy and seems to not really run the score up on people, I think his hands are tied at this point. You don't continue to look good in the eyes of the playoff committee if you only beat Purdue by 10 or 14. I think Ferentz leaves his starters in until midway through the 4th and at that point it is more than likely going to be around 48 - 7.

I agree. Iowa understands where they are in the playoff picture. They know they can't step off the gas against a down-trodden team. I don't know that it'll be 56-3, but I don't expect a repeat of the MSU game, either.

I'm in the minority here but I think that we will hang with IA. We've better teams tough especially on the road. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised to IA looking past us to the NE game.

we had our close game last week, I don't think 56-3 but more like 41-10. I too think Capt. Kirk is a likeable guy/coach, if I was a defensive recruit I'd even consider playing for him, but I don't think he'll run it due to their type of O. As with any bad team, we might hang w/ them for a quarter and then when something bad happens to our team it'll give our guys an excuse to pack it in.

What are you talking about? Everyone knows the progress that Purdue is making. Heck, Hazell knows. When we get destroyed by Iowa the football God's will make them #1.

Hmmmmmm...well, if the weather isn't going to be good then our guys will pack it in early.

PU hangs with the Hawks for one quarter then quits.

Hazell will begin serving hot chocolate & smores on the sidelines.

Hazel should. He needs to do something for all that money he is being paid.

Iowa slams Boilers by 60, does it really matter to the pollsters, I really don't think it does, last time I checked our Boilers have 2 "W"'s, have been terrible for 3 years, just hope Purdue comes out with 0 injuries

No chance. Iowa is in the playoffs if they go 13-0. It doesn't matter if Iowa beats Purdue 7-6 or 77-6. Ferentz will never run the score up on anybody and with this being the 11th game of the season with a short turn around to play Nebraska next, Ferentz & staff will get the starters (especially his banged up QB) out of the game as soon as the outcome is no longer in doubt (if the game gets to that point).

Oklahoma State had to come back in the 4th quarter to beat Iowa State by 4 and they moved up 2 spots. At this point Iowa's season is in the words of the late Jim Valvano, "Survive and advance".

I am going take a hard look at film with coach Hazell to see where we can hold this down. 7-31. As Sagehawk sez, it makes no difference, if the Hawks go 13-0 they are in.

Ferentz will not run the score up, never has, never will. The only way is if Purdue self destructs and gives Iowa points. Otherwise, I see something like 31-14, or 31 21 if Iowa's D doesn't play any better then it did last week.

You haven't been watching the CFP poll show on Tuesdays! It is very subjective and they are critical of every close win that the Big Ten teams have. Now...if ND wins a squeaker....it was a glorious and gutsy victory that should be rewarded with a raise in the polls.
If Iowa was smart, they would leave no doubt! I don't think that there is any guarantee for Iowa to be in the playoff. The committee will bring up their SOS (that will drop after playing Boilers this weekend).

There is no way a Power 5 team that goes undefeated misses the playoffs (unless there are 5 Power 5 teams/ND that go undefeated).

At the end of this season, at most, there will be 3 Power 5 teams that could go undefeated. If all 3 do, all 3 are in regardless of how pretty or impressive they look.

Now if Iowa (or any school) had a loss right now I could see you where a 30 point win over Purdue would help more than a 3 point win. If (and its a huge if) Iowa goes 13-0 they are in no matter what the margin of victory is vs Purdue, Nebraska or in the B1G champ game.

The only way I could see Iowa going 13-0 and not getting in is if they struggle mightily against Purdue, struggle against Nebraska and end beating Michigan in the championship game, and not Ohio State or Michigan State. Beating a two loss Michigan team, and not being impressive the last few weeks could sway the committee. But I don't see Michigan sneaking in. An undefeated Ohio State team would be the best, although I hate OSU.......but I can root for them, sort of, for a brief period of time.

The forecast says 5 to 8 inches of snow over night Friday, but expected to end in the early morning hours. So it will probably all be removed from the field by game time. But we will see.

Score won't be run up intentionally. Ferentz did it one time to Dantonio. 2010 I believe. Up big and still throwing in the 4th quarter. I suspect old KFer doesn't like Dantonio. Well, I more than suspect. I suspect he doesn't much care for Urban Meyer, or his predecessor either.

He likes and respects your coach.

Wrong.

Iowa did win the game vs MSU 37-6 but Iowa only scored 7 points in the 2nd half, none in the 4th quarter and only threw 15 passes the entire game.

MSU's 3 interceptions and 31 yards total rushing for the game is what caused the lopsided win for Iowa. Not even close to running up the score.

Everyone likes to go against our "coach." I don't think he respects him because I don't think anyone does that.

Everyone seems to like Hazell and Burke... Wonder why that is?
