Purdue hires Komara (link) ...

Great hire!

She was a great leader here for four years, and should bring many positive things to the program.

I remember she had a lot of energy as a player. Seems like a good fit for us with her obvious attention to guard play.

I also think this is a great hire! :) I had suspected this might happen, and so I'm glad it did. I loved Kelly when she played--she had such boundless energy and enthusiasm, and I think she ended up with more floor burns than anybody who ever played--except maybe Brian Cardinal. To me, they are very similar. If she has managed to keep that energy and enthusiasm, she should be a great addition to the staff. I know she will be popular with the fans. Every time she has come with a different team to play at Mackey, the crowd always welcomes her enthusiastically when the opponent's coaches are introduced. She has played in two Final Fours, and has had lots of different playing/coaching experience since then. I'm pretty sure SV must think she is and will be a good recruiter, or she would not have gotten the job. Will be great to see her back!

Remember having her, White, Figgs, and Douglas all on the same team. No coincidence we were pretty good that season.

...if she is half as good as she was a player, Sharon has a winner. Welcome back, Kelly!

One of my strongest memories is of the title game in '99 when White went down with an ankle injury. Kelly got off the bench and turned and looked at Steph, like "Don't worry. I got this" and then helped finish off the Dukies. I loved her play and she helped stop Jackie Stiles in '01 too,

It was not possible to make a better hire. I predict she will bring in some big time players that can help us climb back to be competitive with the top teams. We have a very good and healthy program now but are not a top rung team. Only getting some elite players can do that and Komara just may be the key.
I will always maintain that the rise of ND overus and to national prominence corresponded with the Curry fiasco that cost us 3 A-A's and dropped us down in the estimation of recruits, no fault of Versyp. I think our recent classes are a step up, but there are only a smattering of elite players. Indiana has some of them. Go get em, KK, (the new one.)
