Probably a little early for this but I'm considering driving up to Nashville for the game. Thought I'd start a thread for people going so we can discuss events, etc.

The grand ole opry is a nice form of entertainment and would make a good pairing. Nashville also has one of the biggest malls in the us. It includes a rain forest cafe.

I'm seeing they are already for sale on the official Purdue sports site. Priority goes to JPC members but looks like a non-JPC can buy up to 4.

On the Purdue sports website, you don't get to pick your seat though for some reason when buying tickets. Do they just place you with all the rest of the purdue fans at the best place possible?

I think they put you in the Purdue section, and then give you a seat based on priority of JPC points.

As for hotels , I recommend looking at the ones near the airport. They are the best value. Downtown and near vandy are way over priced.

We travel to Nashville a lot. Maybe we'll move there when we retire. The downtown section near the stadium is very nice, but the hotels are very expensive. The hotels by the airport are value priced, but seem kind of out of the way, but their freeways make anything accessible within 20 minutes. They have a very nice yarn shop on the West side of town. My son competes (track) at vandy at least once a year. they also have a nice botanical gardens to visit. Downtown is nice with a pedestrian bridge that goes over the river connecting the Stadium to downtown. While the grand ol opry has moved to the east side of town, the Ryman Auditorium still has big name concerts. Downtown by Broadway is full of nightlife. You should go there on Sunday morning to see all the empty beer bottles, and trash and people left over in the alleys from Saturday night drinking. the Parthenon by Vandy is a nice museum, but it's hours are limited. Several of my favorite restaurants: Maggiano's little Italy By Vandy, Caney Fork by Opryland, Rain forest Café in opry mall, the FARM House , Newk's by vandy, Ted's Montana grill by vandy, Alexanders ( lots of them in town), Rotier's by vandy, Jimmy buffet's Margaritaville on Broadway, Santa fe cattle company by opry, and Cock of the walk by opry. the Caney Fork is known for serving some unique wild game including venison, gator, shark, and elk as well as fried pickle chips, catfish, fried chicken and bbq ribs.

and yes, I've done a few reviews for tripadvisor.

Any idea when and where they would do the pep rally?

Is it usually at a hotel or somewhere else? Night before the game or day of?

Wolegib's Nashville travel advice;

Go to the mall (with exotic mall eatery), stay in a cheap hotel by the airport, wake up early Sun morning to look at trash and empties, try a bunch of chain restaurants, and maybe pick up some yarn whilst visiting.

Slammin'.

Sorry man but that's funny as hell!

There will be tons of tickets for sale. If I were going (and I have not ruled it out) I wouldn't bother looking for tickets until the day of the game. I am kind of a game snob, if I am there I am going to have good seats. Scalpers will have the good seats.

It's pretty obvious cleanface read my entire post possibly twice before replying. He must have really liked it. Previously he would just ignore me. I must have won him over .

see you there! Actually I probably won't but if I do ..... what will your reply be for following my advice?

If you are looking for knitting excitement, I'd suggest staying out the the airport, plus there might be a real great Cracker Barrel out there. If that does not do so much for you,, I'd stay by Vanderbilt or just to the east in Downtown (even better). I'd ditch the car in a garage, and walk or cab everywhere.

I went to three MC bowls back in 2002,2003, and 2005, plus stayed at the Aloft Hotel by Vanderbilt before and after the 2010 MTSU game in Murfreesboro. Nashville is one of my favorite places to spend a few days in every few years. I stayed at the Grand Sheraton, the Union Depot, and a Courtyard by Vanderbilt. All were a short cab ride, hotel shuttle ride, or long walk from lower Broadway and the 1st Street area.

The row of old time taverns on Lower Broadway that back up to the side of the Ryman Auditorium are my favorites. Take the tour of the Ryman if you can.

go here for at least one or two drinks, you will know you are there when you see the boots lined up on the walls- live music in the front window stage much of the day. - these places are crawling with first rate session musicians playing in the cover bands

Unless you are very opposed to fun, you want to be near Lower Broadway and the downtown area. It is great walking around down there and there are tons of options for food and drink, some more more authentic than others. In the past there was some sort of Band "Battle" just after sunset the night before the game, on First downtown, where they close down a number of streets, and the two marching bands march to the middle of one of the intersections and play a few songs for about an hour.

Park in the stadium parking lot ($25) or park somewhere downtown and walk???

While the grand ol opry has moved to the east side of town, the Ryman Auditorium still has big name concerts.

While both these points are true, you're missing an important fact. The opry returns to the Ryman every year for the holiday season. There are Opry performances on Friday/Saturday that weekend at the Ryman, featuring Old Crow Medicine Show.

Robert Earl Keen also performing at the Ryman on Thursday.

I would park downtown and walk. They have several down town parking lots with half way decent security near Broadway. You can then take the pedestrian bridge to the game, and your car would be parked by the night life. .
