Purdue === Elite

I like Bardo a lot as well. I like when he talks about the Flying Illini days and his respect for Gene and Purdue. He seems like a really sharp guy.

I think one thing about this team that could potentially make us better than the past two years is that we are more balanced in that while we have two very good 7-footers, we are only going to go through them when it is our best approach against an overmatched team, like tonight. There will be other games where Haas will have 4 points because perimeter play is our best chance. We can do both. Time will tell if we can be better than last year or not. Too early to know.

Completely agree. The Haas/Haarms centered attack seemed catered to Marqutte's lack of size. One thing that we have demonstrated this year that we have rarely had is the ability for guards to effectively slash to the basket. AND actually make a shot rather than do some stupid floater that results in a charge or transition 3 the other way.

Bardo always gives us alot of props, good announcer too. Does anyone remember if we were one of his college offers when he played? thanks

I don't recall....but that ('86) class was pretty-well hyped for Illinois.....included Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, and Stephen Bardo. Marcus Liberty joined the next year, IIRC. I would think top 5 under today's standards.

One related item is that Bardo also makes it quite clear how much he respects the atmosphere of Mackey Arena and how tough it is for Purdue opponents. He's been pretty good-natured about it having admitted often that his teams went 0-4 in Mackey Arena, including a wild one in 1987 requiring overtime and some Doug Lee heroics.
