Purdue drops second straight (link)

Too many holes in the dike, not enough fingers. This could be Versyp's worse season (almost felt sorry for her about game story laments; doesn't seem like there is much she can do this year now) tho we do not know that yet. Loss of Perry really hurts tho her presence may not help vs tough road teams.
This team: does not shoot well (Wilson's shooting woes and lack of offense was not expected) , does not have a really effective shot blocking and shot altering big, has atrocious interior defense, does not handle the ball well and has way too many unforced turnovers, an unfortunate characteristic of Purdue teams in recent years. And we have a short bench with very little significant help from the heralded frosh. But they do battle and kept coming back vs. Iowa.
If this year plays out to be as disappointing at it looks to be, does this mean the permanent downturn of a once highly-rated and very proud program? Could be, as a number on this board have been saying for awhile.
But next year: We will have a lot back including three experienced guards,we do have a very highly rated class, and we will have a front line, tho inexperienced, that will be 6'3. 6'4 and 6' 6. But the loss of Bays particularly will be a BIG loss. Feel bad for her as she is one of our very best players in years and has little support.
Not a fun year.'
Not a fun year for Purdue sports fans overall.

The real question for me regarding next year's class is whether SV can do anything with them. They are suppose to be good but our coach has not shown much of an ability to be a good team together. I hope that I am surprised.

Re: Surprise...

Used to be we were surprised when we did not do well. Now we are surprised when we play competitively.

I have to admit that my pre-season optimism was way too---too--optimistic. I really thought Liza Clemons would be more effective than she has shown so far this season. I knew Whitney Bays would be a beast, and she is, but she can't do it all alone. I did think that Wilson, Morrissette, and Perry would be more productive--and I do think that this could come later in the season. Of course, with Perry injured, that will set her back a little. I don't think we are as good as I thought we would be, but I don't think we are as bad as so many on this board and the other board are claiming. Andreona Keys is only a freshman, but she is going to be very, very good. How soon? Not sure. Ashley Morrissette is a good shooter who has struggled with her shot so far this season. It will come back to her. When? Who knows? April Wilson is a very good point guard, and she can also shoot. Will they get it together any time soon? Anybody's guess. I'm not ready to give up on the season, but so far it has been disappointing. We're not going to win the B1G, and we're probably not going to win the B1G tourney (although, come tourney time, anything can happen). We are probably also not going to the dance this year, which is too bad for Bays and Clemons. However, having said all that, I see a light at the end of the tunnel and it is shining on the end of this season and on next season. So we'll see. I'm still in the stands in my seat for games, and will continue to be. Hail Purdue and Go Boilers. They're still my team.

Unfortunately, many in the stands are giving up. The crowds are getting smaller and leaving earlier each game.

As you said, bays cannot do it alone. Wilson was having a bad game, so why leave her in to play the most minutes? Lazy passes, turnovers, missed layups from our # 1 point guard. She should have been sat down early and often.

Thornton was having her best night as a Boiler. Unfortunately, the energy she brought did not buy her enough playing time.

Horrocks never saw the floor tonight, did she? Why? I have been impressed with her play when she gets enough minutes to get in the flow of the game. Maybe she has had poor practices? She seems a gamer to me.

This team needs to find a way to generate consistent offense when Bays is covered up. I have been a CSV supporter, but I think she needs to step back and take a look at her personnel and how she is using them. We generated offense by playing good defense in the first half. If we can't hit the outside shot, we should be driving the lane. When someone is having a bad night, sit them on the bench and give someone else a chance.

This team has more talent than they are showing and that reflects on coaching.
