Purdue at Oregon Volleyball

How many stayed up and watched the complete marathon match? :) That was a big road win with both tournament hosting and seeding implications. Hudson and Chicoine had huge nights with both recording double digit kills and digs. While Colvin had 11 kills, she and the other middles seem to be out of sync with Anderson, the setter, most of the night. Looking at the stats, you would think that Oregon won the game by out hitting us 0.249 to 0.215 and having about a 2-1 advantage in blocking. Of course, all of the opposing teams are keying on Hudson with 2-3 blockers. I would like to see Purdue use the middles more to take the focus off of her and hopefully, increase the overall team hitting efficiency.

Hopefully, there's no taking the foot off the gas pedal in tomorrow's game against a potential tournament team, but this road win against highly ranked Oregon was huge. Their tournament resume is great with 5 of their 6 losses against the top 6 teams in country and the other loss was against the 11 ranked team. They've now beaten 5 ranked teams and are playing in the toughest (by miles) volleyball conference in the nation.

Purdue managed a reverse sweep of #13 Oregon on the road. Down 0-2, they squeezed out 2 point wins in each of the last 3 sets. Scores were 19-25, 22-25, 29-27, 25-23 and 15-13. Match ended on a hit by Oregon that barely landed out of bounds.
It was a thrilling game. At the break, down 0-2, I just about threw the towel in and went to bed. So glad I did not. The last three sets were incredibly exciting with the lead steadily changing and, obviously, many ties. Almost everyone contributed.

If I do say so, I thought the commentators were decidedly pro-Oregon and they could hardly believe that the Boilers had the talent to come back. But maybe that was just me.
