Purdue at Louisville NCAA Volleyball: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Let's have a thread tonight as Purdue faces Louisville in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

 

[Boiler Up Time]

Oregon almost took down the No. 1 team in the nation on their home court (Pitt) in a very close 5 set match. During the last week of the regular season, Purdue beat Oregon on "O's" home court. The Boilers have the ability to compete with any team in the nation. I hope they play well tonight!

Or the 2nd. Or the 3rd. Man what a disappointing match. I just left the arena. Love this team but they just laid an egg tonight. They are so much more capable than shat they showed Good number of Purdue fans there - several hundred - but very little to cheer about. Louisville was hitting on all cylinders and Purdue simply couldn’t seem to find any rhythm.

At least 2 times they let soft balls just bounce between players. I’ve seen that maybe once all season. Twice tonight! They did not look ready, comfortable or connected. No grit. Sets were only competitive up to 10-15 points, then Louisville just took over. Really sour note to end the season, snd Raven and Allie Hornung’s Purdue careers.

I am glad I got to see the seniors’ last match. Allie & Raven played well. Boiler up gals. Still love y’all!

Good season that once again ended a bit disappointing, that match was never in doubt, #8 seed Northern Iowa played them 100x better, maybe that was their wake-up call. I’ve said it before, Coach likely needs to hit the portal going forward, same thing likely happens next year if he doesn’t. Purdue has a great Volleyball environment, I’m sure really good players at good but not great programs would love to jump on board here.

I think the lack of NIL money for volleyball has made it difficult for CDS to do much in the portal. Hopefully things change when revenue sharing begins next year.

I do know that Chloe made herself a decent amount of money selling jersey’s and stuff, this is a really good volleyball environment, seems to be a step behind though, it was like this before NIL unfortunately. Coach is a credit to this university, however, I think this years team was a player short, hard to believe that he couldn’t bring in a solid player from the portal in the offseason. Maybe you’re correct, if true let’s hope that gets rectified, this is a great fan base. Western Michigan played us tooth and nail in that first round, I would think that a top player from then or a Loyola would have no problem jumping over here. Anyways, nice season that as usual ended up short of that elusive Final 4.

Watching Nebraska vs Dayton match - Neb is up 2-0 and the third set is just underway. Dayton setter went out with a leg injury in the 2nd set I think - but is back in and Dayton hanging tough so far. If - IF - they somehow win this third set, this will make Purdue the only team to not win at least 1 set in the entire third round of the tourney. Sigh….

I thought Purdue had a legit shot, Louisville was fortunate to survive the #8 seed Northern Iowa in the second round. Purdue played a poor match, good season that ended with a dud.

I'm not convinced that CDS had a good game plan against Louisville's unique offense which has two setters. Certainly, there was some poor player execution, but it appears to me he should absorb some of the responsibility as well. He was interviewed before the last set of the match and said that his players were serving marshmallows (some like that) and wanted them to be more aggressive with their serves even if they had some errors. Well, they certainly had a number of serving errors in the last set but it didn't substantially change the result. He benched Kane a few games before the end of the season because of her aggressive serve with some errors.

She played some nice games throughout the season but tailed off big time later in the season. She’s a big girl but she wasn’t the most athletic is matches I watched, granted I didn’t see a ton of them.

Dave talked about for sure 1 possibly 2 portal players, if this is true for sure 2 possibly 3 need to be added. Also, might not be the only player leaving, we’ll see.
